Job Description

 Advocate Healthcare of East Boston is seeking an energetic individual to join our team as an Recreation Activities Assistant!

 

PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION

 

The primary purpose of your position is to assist the Director of  Recreation in planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Activity Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident is maintained.

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

As Recreation Assistant, you are responsible and accountable for carrying out your assigned duties. You report directly to the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and/or the Administrator.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent. Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

As a minimum, one (1) year experience in an Activities Department in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility or other related medical facility is preferred.

 

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.

  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing principles.

  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

  • Must participate in continuing education and in-service training.

     

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

  • Assist in plans and provisions of patient care by visiting residents regularly to evaluate needs.

  • Document and report to the nursing department any unusual or significant findings.

  • Encourage resident to take part in activities of daily living that will stimulate his/her potential, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.

  • Spend duty time with residents rather than with other facility staff.

  • Assist with and follow through on the establishment of resident care goals within the framework of the entire therapeutic team.

  • Document accurately, timely and comprehensively.
