The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all activities related to sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection for their assigned shift. Completes staff evaluations, monthly schedules, and performance improvement activities for the department. Oversees the orientation of new employees. Acts as a liaison between Central Services and other hospital departments to ensure availability of instrumentation and equipment as needed for patient care. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
One year previous Central Service or Surgical Tech experience
Central Service Tech Certification from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Manager Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or equivalent accrediting body

Plans staff assignments for the shift based on Surgery and other procedure area volumes. Prioritizes work throughout the shift to ensure instrumentation and equipment are available as needed. Completes monthly staff schedule and ensures all gaps in staffing are covered. Works in conjunction with the management team to ensure staffing matches workload and that labor standards are achieved. Justifies overtime on a daily basis.
Monitors sterilization practices to ensure all standards are met. Keeps accurate records of all sterilizer loads. Utilizes knowledge of sterilization parameters and takes corrective action if parameters are not met.
Ensures safe work practices for all employees. Monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination area. Promotes a safe environment. Takes appropriate action in emergency situations, and practices awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees.
Monitors work environment to ensure infection control standards are met. Ensures department is cleaned on a daily basis. Monitors environmental controls (temp and humidity, air flow) and takes corrective action as needed. Identifies and reports any other environmental concerns to the management team.
Acts as a liaison between all hospital departments that utilize Central Services to ensure needs of the customer are met. Communicates with Surgery staff to ensure instrumentation is available as needed for cases.
Coordinates, monitors, and delegates activities required for maintaining SPD inventory ordering process and charging for supply items/equipment to patients through the Suncare System. Responsible for entering orders for OR inventory located in SPD. Responsible for receiving orders through Suncare System.
Develops orientation plan for new employees. Meets with orientee on a weekly basis to assess progress.
Participates in the disciplinary process with employees. Completes employee evaluations in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintains competency by attending continuing education seminars related to Central Service issues and attending inservices on new equipment and instrumentation in the department.
