Production Supervisor - Newark, NJ

Responsible for leading and developing employees, as well as meeting defined Metrics for Safety, Quality, Production, Service and Efficiency. Schedule priority production machines and/or lines and employees accordingly. Assist and work under the direction of the Plant Manager. While performing the supervisory duties listed below, the supervisor is required to spend 70% of time on the production floor. 

 
Day-to-Day Role: 

  • Take ownership and demonstrate leadership necessary to achieve goals specific to Safety, Quality, Service, Efficiency and Employee Engagement/Development 

  • Work with Plant Manager and Maintenance Technician to identify improvement opportunities. 

  • Support Maintenance Technician in troubleshooting mechanical issues. 

  • Lead by example to promote and encourage employees to strongly commit to safety. 

  • Establish an environment that encourages employee engagement, participation and teamwork 

  • Schedule line priorities and staff to efficiently meet production goals on time. This includes taking daily attendance, scheduling personnel on specific lines and coordinating lunch breaks. 

  • Track Line Performance, anticipating and correcting trends which would compromise achievement of customer commitments.  

  • Enter employee data into computer systems as required. 

  • Perform Safety and Quality Audits. Correct deficiencies as necessary. 

  • Ensure employees inspect product and sign quality control check sheets as required. 

  • Understand, support and follow management expectations in alignment with company values. 

  • Conduct or participate in the interview process with new candidates. 

  • Take an active role in the onboarding of new hires, including ensuring that training is complete to a satisfactory level. 

  • Supervise and direct the work of others. 

  • Make decisions and recommendations regarding, hiring, terminations, overtime and pay adjustments. 

  • Responsible for employee development, discipline, performance feedback and appraisals. 

  • Manufacturing Hours of Operation are Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. 

 
Core Skills & Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will have the following: 

  • Two (2) years supervisory experience required with demonstrated strong leadership and management skills 

  • High School Diploma or GED 

  • Three (3) years of experience in a production environment 

  • Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable 

  • Ability to utilize and train employees on technology, processes and procedures 

  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes 

  • Hands-on approach 

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint 

 
Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree 

  • Continuous improvement experience 

  • Fibre Board/Paper production a plus 

  • Forklift experience and certification
