JOB DESCRIPTION: Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse
REPORTS TO: Practice Administrator, CEO and MD Anesthesia
JOB SUMMARY:
The RN Charge Nurse is responsible for supervising and facilitating the day to day operations of the specified area and its staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements include graduation from an accredited school of nursing, current state licensure as a registered nurse, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
Preferred candidates will have previous experience in surgical services, ambulatory surgery centers, leadership roles
Physical guidelines include ability to stand/walk/sit for up to twelve hours per day; bend, stoop, and twist.
Requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds, including assisting patients when required. Some heavy lifting, pushing, pulling exerted regularly throughout the work shift. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.
1. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Manage day to day operations in assigned area
b. Facilitates efficient operations by providing direction, guidance and counseling to staff
c. Responsible for assuring customer service/patient needs are met. Monitors patient service
feedback and works with physicians and manager/director in the resolution of complaints and
service issues
d. Provides contact and follow-up with the staff and physicians (when applicable)
e. Coordinates tasks for assigned area in cooperation with manager/director and physicians
f. Maintains highest level of confidentiality in regards to internal proprietary information and
patient information
g. Develops strong inter-department teamwork and empowerment to meet the needs of the patients
and physicians
h. Works with the manager/director to manage appropriate staffing ratios and overtime
i. Supports and promotes a positive role model and image with vendors, patients, staff, managers,
and physicians
j. Follows all required regulatory and legal compliance related to confidentiality and safety
(HIPAA, OSHA, etc)
k. May be responsible for other tasks in assigned area, such as materials coordination, staff training,
staffing
2. JOB DUTIES:
a. Prepare for the arrival of patients to the surgery center by making sure that all required
documentation and testing have been performed and received.
b. Review patient charts for health history, make sure consent has been obtained
c. Ensure all cardiac/pulmonary/medical documentation necessary is available for anesthesia
providers to review in a timely manner
d. Communicate with other health care team members to assure continuity of care in the surgery
center

i. Demonstrate supervisory skills, ie. ability to provide team leadership, to role model
professional customer service behaviors, and to build effective work teams
ii. Effective facilitator

v. Ability to problem solve and resolve situations effectively
vi. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
vii. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to professionally manage interactions
with difficult people an/or difficult situations
viii. Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities
ix. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and
governmental/accreditation regulations
b. Abilities
i. Communicate clearly and calmly with patients/families/staff
ii. Elicit information needed to make brief evaluations of situations
iii. Work closely with physicians and other clinicians as needed
iv. Make judgements on/respond to disasters/emergencies
