Job Summary:
The Chief Engineer oversees the daily Central Utility Plant (CUP) operations and managers 19 stationary enginers across three shifts.
Pay Rate: $90,000 per year
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must possess an active HVAC Master or Stationary Engineers License First Grade or higher in Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia or must be able to acquire one within six months of hire.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive and hands-on experience in an environment of similar proportions and mission as the assigned area of responsibility
- Valid state driver's license
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain a Top Secret clearance
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft applications, ability to read and write English and the ability to reason and solve problems
- Active Top Secret Clearance, preferred
Essential Duties:
- Chief Stationary Engineer will be responsible for the management and operation of the facility and systems (heat, ventilation and air conditioning, process air, vacuum and trim collection, electrical distribution, volatile organic compounds and abatement systems, etc.).
- Supervise employees engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of the high- and low-pressure steam distribution systems for heating, drying; air-conditioning and heating systems; and air and water pressure systems throughout the 3.5 million square ft complex.
- Perform constant reviews on operating and servicing functions in order to provide continuous service and to prevent breakdowns. Recommend to the Project Manager any need for major repairs to mechanical systems. Inspects repair jobs when work is completed.
- Generate and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regularly. Present SOPs for review annually.
- Perform all administrative tasks including but not limited to: scheduling, reports, work planning, ensuring personnel perform all task safely and effectively.
- Ensure staff operate and maintain site-critical engineering systems and equipment that supply the facility with heat, utility and conditioned power, ventilation, air conditioning and other environmental and critical systems in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, industry best practices, and manufacturers specifications.
- Support staff with the engineering systems and drawings and equipment, including boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, electrical distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, etc.
- Operate and maintain critical systems such as HVAC, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, batteries, switchgear, life safety and building automated systems, and utility systems.
- Make periodic inspections of all engineering systems and equipment and monitoring equipment operations, maintain equipment operating logs and operational reports as required.
- Proficiently use test equipment and devices pertinent to building operating systems and analyze test results.
- Must possess thorough knowledge of Equipment, Assembly, Installation, Repair,etc.
- Must be able to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) and Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
- Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences. Respond to emergency situations and perform any and all tasks necessary for the protection of occupants and property.
