Job Description

Position summary:

This position will facilitate and execute continuous improvement activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.  Provide hands on support to operations personnel to assist in identification, development, communication and execution of continuous improvement plans.  Work closely with production, maintenance, quality, planning and shipping to reduce waste, increase capacity, increase machine productivity, reduce lead times, and improve product and process quality.  You are expected to advocate for team members with a “how do I make your job easier” mind set and emphasis on quick analysis, consensus building and taking fast “hands-on” action to improve processes.  Position ensures that facility improvement initiatives support corporate strategy and goals.

Essential job duties and responsibilities:

  • Follows all safety policies and is active in safety programs including audits & investigation of near misses & injuries
  • Key contributor to deployment and sustainment of plant wide 5s Visual Workplace program including: 
    • Audit administration and scheduling, training, implementation of standards (Job cycle cleaning charts, zone mapping, etc.) performance tracking, reporting and completing actions to attain deployment goals.     
    • Hands-on design and construction of timesaving, ergonomic structures (tables, carts, communication boards etc.) needed by Operations
  • Leads small team “rapid” kaizen events on monthly basis
    • Analyzes data, prepares reports, organizes events and ensures follow-up on actions plans
  • Direct liaison with Team Leaders and Supervisors on implementation of Leaders standard work
  • Facilitates standardization, improvement and sustainment of DMS including (Tier #1 communication process, visual boards and other crew-based communication methods)
  • Support RCCA efforts in response to client quality issues or in response to internal QC trends
  • May have an active role in client visits, plant tours and off-site client visits to troubleshoot quality issues
  • Works closely with Maintenance and Reliability Engineer on implementation of new systems or enhancement to existing equipment systems
  • My have an active role on project teams to support capital equipment and building expansion investments
  • Supports and may lead technical training initiatives:
    • Develop, teach and maintain Standard work (SOP’s, VOP’s)
    • Delivers incumbent employee training on fundamentals of OE methodology (6S, Single Piece Flow etc.)
    • Active role in Acme University course development and delivery to team members
  • May be required to work 2nd or 3rd shift hours & will occasionally share in weekend duties with Department leads

Education and Experience:

  • (2) or (4) year degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or Business Management
  • (2) or more years working in a fast machine paced manufacturing environment
    • Preferably in one of the following roles (Process Engineer, Lean Coordinator, Team Leader/Supervisor)
  • Possess a Lean Facilitators or Champions Certification
  • Experienced leading Kaizen events and use of PDCA methodology

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced MS computing skills including Excel (spreadsheet, pivot table, graphing) Word, Visio and Powerpoint
  • Solid mechanical skills and experience using hands and power tools
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Intermediate to Advanced ERP computing capabilities
  • Intermediate to Advanced practitioner of Lean Manufacturing Methodology
  • Strong listening and follow-up skills
  • Must be able to develop effective presentations materials and visual
  • Experience achieving team-based results without direct Supervisory authority

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to bend, stoop, grip, reach and lift up to 40 lbs. on a repetitive basis and be able to stand the majority of your work schedule to perform duties.
