Job Title: Direct Support Trainer

Reports to: Program Manager

Responsibility to supervise other employees: None

Classification: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule : Monday - Friday 8am-230pm

Starting Pay : $13.00/Hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Familiarity with disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance and DMV printout stating a clean record with NO DUI or reckless driving convictions
  • Possess an operational and reliable vehicle that can be used to transport (3) passengers w/standard seatbelts
  • Must posses a personal mobile phone and be willing to use it for official ABLE business
  • Required to have First Aid and CPR certificates

Essential responsibilities:

  • Arrives to work on time as scheduled and notifies supervisor (2) two hours before absence
  • Attends mandatory company meetings
  • Completes mandatory DST trainings
  • Accurately follows instructions provided by management

Required Knowledge, Ability, Skills :

  • Compassion towards all participants
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to last minute work requests
  • Perform duties in the utmost ethical manner by maintaining participant confidentiality
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations including responding to a participant injury or illness
  • Willingness to receive constructive criticism and to improve work performance when necessary
  • Ability to take initiative without prompting from management or supervisors

Support Responsibilities:

  • Works with participants at a 1:3 ratio to create a daily or weekly schedule that complies with ABLE standards, incorporating the IPP goals and focus on employment opportunities
  • Comply with all company rules, policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws regarding participant care
  • Executes ISP in an accurate, efficient and thorough manner
  • Assist participants with personal hygiene care as needed
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate records for each participant
  • Maintains confidentiality of participants records and personal information
  • Comply with participant’s rights and principles
  • Maintains excellent communication with participants, their families, residential providers, any necessary outside agencies, other employee’s, supervisory staff, and community members
  • Notify management and discuss any issues or concerns regarding participants or employees
  • Understands and gives the participant an opportunity to work independently while completing all work necessary to ensure the quality and quantity standards are met daily
  • Actively learns components of the job placement duties and supports participants to complete all tasks
  • Supports participants in job or volunteer opportunities by acting as a liaison between site management and ABLE participants
  • Performs other job-related duties as required by management
  • Safeguards company property and reports any incidents of theft, destruction, or unauthorized possession of company property (Reference Employee Handbook)
  • Required to transport participants in the community and comply with company driving policy (Reference Employee Handbook)
  • Promotes and demonstrates teamwork with other staff and management
  • Utilize interpersonal skills including; (courtesy, sensitivity, politeness and empathic listening)
  • Will always behave as a good role model for participants

Physical /Mental Requirements :

  • Bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, kneeling, and reaching or similar activities
  • Lifting objects up to approximately 60 pounds
  • Possible lifting or transferring person(s)
  • Sustained alertness and concentration required to supervise participants
  • Ability to hear clearly and communicate with participants
  • Ability to negotiate with participants
