Heating, Ventilation and Air - Conditioning Mechanic

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Services and repairs environmental-control systems in the hospital and office buildings utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, hand tools and structural layout Ability to follow blueprints or engineering specifications Services ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using a torch, forming a complete circuit for the refrigerant. Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit. Maintains motors, compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications. Maintains motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units Service air conditioners ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and small buildings May perform routine general maintenance services including painting, plumbing, equipment repair and grounds keeping As required performs repairs on a variety of facility systems such as mechanical, electrical, building systems, and other critical systems Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements: Ability to perform the most complex and unusual tasks of the craft without supervision Experience in commercial building HVAC mechanical work highly desireable. Personnel handling refrigerants shall be certified in accordance with the EPA 608 refrigerant rules as specified in the Clean Air Act Current journeyman card or have passed the Journeyman Mechanic desirable shall be certified by a nationally recognized HVAC certification program (i.e., North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or ESCO Institute HVAC Excellence Professional Level Technician Certification Valid Driver License required Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to prioritize essential tasks Must be able to pass a local background check and have the ability to work on a Federal Installation after hire Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Must be able to lift 50 lbs Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and /or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc. Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $20+ Hourly
