The Job

As the Divisional New Business Manager you will be responsible for Net New Store Growth in the Eastern US division. This responsibility includes leading the Divisional New Business Team (10-11 Market Development Manager’s/MDM’s) to meet and exceed new business targets.  The DMNB collaborates with the New Business Corporate Support team, as well as their Retail Operations peers, to sign New Investors to Ace, assist current Ace owners with opening branch locations, and converting competing convenience hardware stores over to the Ace brand.   The DMNB will also lead the Divisional Conversion Manager (CM).  This role is responsible for leading all divisional efforts to convert competing convenience hardware stores over to the Ace brand.   The over-arching goal is to responsibly and efficiently drive annual sales growth and grow Ace’s market share.

What you’ll do

  • Direct accountability of delivering ~80 New Stores annually.  Annual wholesale volume of these stores to exceed $50M, with retail sales volume of approximately $100M. Direct and manage the Divisional expense budget with accountability of $10M.
  • Lead and support Market Development Manager team. Coach to the strengths and weaknesses of the teams’ ability to drive new store growth. 
  • Lead and support Divisional Conversion Manager. Coach to the strengths and weaknesses of this individual’s ability to lead competitor conversion strategy with a goal of converting 50-75 stores annually to the Ace brand,
  • Research, deliver and continually improve a comprehensive new store implementation process utilizing all available resources and tools.  Setting attainable goals in process improvement, communication and program functionality. 
  • Oversee and manage key metric reporting on New Business store tracking and results.  Have extensive knowledge of our store forecasting model (SIMMS).
  • Serve as the corporate liaison / communication conduit between the New Business field team and Ace Corporate to ensure a consistent message and process in the activation of new Ace stores

What you need to succeed

  • Leadership capability and skills to lead a large team (10+) to achieve their goals and deliver high performing Ace stores to the Ace family.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage all New Business opportunities over a large geographical area East Division is everything East of the Mississippi River, West Division is West of the river.
  • Exceptional financial acumen with the ability to thoroughly review financials of all prospective retailers.  This includes, but not limited to, assessing liquidity, owner equity and credit worthiness, business cash flow needs, lease agreements and business proformas.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.  Ability to analyze complex situations by numerous internal\external variables and quickly define a proper approach to resolve the challenge.
  • Progressive management and leadership experience: Strong leadership skills in coaching and developing employees including mentoring the team, supporting their professional development, evaluating job performance and productivity according to key metrics and driving continuous improvement of existing and newly established initiatives.
  • Ability to strategically assess the performance of the Division to develop action plans to guide the team on developing improved organizational strategies and overall new business performance thorough understanding of retail operations, business fundamentals and new business development.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine Divisional needs to develop strategies and translate them into actionable tactics.
  • For this position, can reside anywhere in the Eastern part of the United States, with close proximity to an airport.
