Title of Position: Business Intelligence Analyst

Posting Location: Abilene

Department: Information Technology

Employee Class: Exempt Full-Time

Basic Responsibilities

  1. As part of the analytics team, this position will help ensure ACU continues to evolve its ability to effectively use, promote, and rely on accurate, timely data.
  2. Work closely with internal business leads and technical resources to create and deploy reporting and analytic solutions. These solutions will include content such as reports, dashboards, extracts, etc.
  3. In addition to development activities, this position will assist in maintaining and administering campus business intelligence and analytic systems. These tasks may include security administration, software testing and release management, and upgrade planning.

Essential Duties

  1. Work with campus offices to ensure the accuracy of reportable data.
    1. As data becomes reportable, ensure that user-facing tools accurately report the data.
    2. Help develop and implement training resources to help end-users effectively use their data.
    3. Help develop plans to review changes in operational data to ensure reports and analytics remain accurate.
    4. Work with the Director of Business Intelligence to review long-term needs for reports and analytics. Retire reports and analytics that are no longer needed.
  2. Work with campus offices to encourage the development of self-service analytic skills. Help develop training plans for end-users on how to access data, what data is available to report upon, and how to use third-party tools.
    1. Encourage the continued expansion of reportable data.
    2. Encourage departments to expand the number of expert end-user reports and analytic authors.
  3. Develop analytic solutions. Work with campus offices to develop analytical solutions that enable those offices to use and analyze data effectively.
    1. Develop reports, dashboards, extracts, and data feeds for campus offices. These analytic resources may be used internally or reported to outside agencies.

Professional Development Requirements

A. Skills

  1. Strong organizational skills.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including preparing and delivering formal and informal documentation, presentations, and training to various end-users.
  3. Knowledge of business intelligence or analytics solutions (IBM Cognos, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, Crystal Reports, etc.). Cognos Business Intelligence / Analytics experience is strongly preferred.
  4. Knowledge of visualization tools (Tableau, QlikView, etc.). Tableau is preferred.
  5. Knowledge or experience with enterprise ERP systems (Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, etc.).
  6. Programming experience using a database management system such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, or NoSQL databases like MongoDB. Oracle RDMBS is strongly preferred.
  7. Programming experience with cloud-based database systems such as Snowflake or Redshift are desirable.
  8. Programming experience in languages such as Java, PHP, Groovy, .NET Framework, C#, Objective-C, Python, PL/SQL.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work with technical and non-technical staff to identify user requirements and translate them into technology-based solutions.
  10. Ability to keep current with information technology, analytic, and business intelligence trends, especially as they apply to higher education. This includes participating in conferences and training classes on higher education application software or computing systems.

B. Training Modules Required:

  1. Database Management Systems training or courses.
  2. Data Warehouses training or courses.
  3. Software development seminars or development.
  4. Interpersonal and communications classes and workshops.
  5. Time and multiple priorities management workshops.

Qualifications

  1. Professional
    1. ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.
    2. BS or BBA degree, preferable in Computer Science or Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
    3. Database support, programming, or systems support for at least eight years.
    4. Demonstrated leadership in planning, implementing or supporting ERP sourced OLAP or OLTP data sourced analytic resources.
    5. Demonstrated leadership in advancing analytic or reporting efforts within the enterprise.
  2. Personal
    1. Work as a team member.
    2. Good communications skills: oral and written.
    3. Strong people skills: interact with students, faculty, staff, contractors, and vendors.

Physical Demands

A. Must be able to work with a computer for extended periods (88% of the time)

B. Must be able to work occasional extended work hours. This includes responding to telephone calls outside of business hours while

maintaining regular work hours.
