Primary Job Function:
The primary function of this R&D laboratory position is the execution and documentation of mass spectrometry experiments toward characterization of proteins that will be used in clinical immunoassay formulations for diagnostics.
Core Job Duties:
The successful candidate must be capable of skillfully applying multiple mass spectrometry techniques, primarily to protein biomolecules. Specific requirements of the position include: expertise with mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation & analysis, liquid chromatography (HPLC, UPLC) instrumentation & analysis and capability to diagnose/troubleshoot both sets of instruments. The candidate must be capable of functioning within a research-based analytical group including ability to critically process LC-MS and LC-MS/MS analytical data, correctly interpret data to give results and summarize all for stakeholders; where the stakeholders are scientists, but not mass spectrometrists. Candidate will need to contribute to cross-functional teams involving new immunoassay product development with assay, process design and biologics development scientists. The position will require excellent team-working and adaptability competencies as well as strong technical communication skills, both in written and oral form. Candidate must also be effective with timely and accurate record-keeping of laboratory work.
Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics. Ph.D. in a life or physical science with 2+ years research or industrial experience, Or B.S./M.S. degree with 2+ years of research or industrial experience
Proven experience with standard LC-MS and LC-MS/MS methods used for qualitative characterization of protein biomolecules is required. Quantitative LC-MS/MS experience is preferred, but not required. Software experience with Sciex, Agilent and / or Waters instruments is preferred, but also not required. Knowledge of test method characterization and/or validation would aid the candidate’s integration into the area. Other valuable experience such as: planning and working within a timeline, antibody protein structure and function knowledge as well as a solid analytical chemistry background would be beneficial.
