As AUTOW continues to grow in the MSA Birmingham area, we have an opening for a Mobile Service Technician/Diesel Mechanic. The role of the Mobile Service Team Member is to perform complex, heavy-duty mechanical truck repair and maintenance offsite at customer locations. Develops relationships with customers and analyzes customer operations for opportunities to help increase productivity.

  • Performs skilled and complicated mechanical work on Medium & heavy-duty truck equipment and related components with minimum supervision.
  • Coordinates customer repair orders with Service Manager and Shop Foreman for task assignment. Coordinates with Service Advisor for proper work scheduling of all mobile maintenance business.
  • Advises customer of needed service work, as well as suggests additional labor, parts, and body shop sales whenever possible (i.e. Preventative Maintenance Inspections, related service work, etc.).
  • Follows safe work practices and procedures, uses safety equipment when required, responds to suggestions for working safely & seeks assistance when necessary. Ensures proper safety, care, and maintenance of company vehicles assigned to the technician. Reports any damage to company or customer equipment or property immediately to supervisor.
  • Maintain favorable relations with customers.
  • Creates and closes repair orders in the AUTOW Enrich business system to document the repair work performed and the time spent completing the repair. Completes paperwork as required to accurately document the work performed.
  • Controls business expenses within the approved expense budget and is responsible for tooling and parts inventory of the service truck.
  • Oversees operations of assigned customers in territory. Calls upon key accounts (current and prospective regularly. Introduces items such as preventive maintenance, new products, and promotions, reemphasizes existing products and services and provide literature as necessary.
  • Responsible for achieving labor sales objectives and quotas for assigned accounts.
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' medium and/or heavy-duty truck repair experience.
  • A/C, Brake, Engine, and Component Certifications required.
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with little supervision.
  • Must have a commitment to customer satisfaction and perform quality repairs.
  • Must have excellent communication skills. Must have a positive can-do attitude.
  • Necessary tools to perform position responsibilities.
  • Class A or B CDL and DOT medical card may be required depending on the size of the mobile service vehicle.

 

AUTOW is seeking experienced diesel technicians/mechanics. We are also looking for individuals who will work both in our facilities and operate out of a mobile maintenance unit. These are two separate positions. We are also looking for hard workers who want to learn the trade of diesel Repairs as a repair technician.

 

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Vocational or Technical certification preferred
  • Working knowledge in the use of hand tools required
  • A valid driver’s license is required,
  • Must have a positive attitude and willingness to grow in the position
  • Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.
  • Willingness to travel within the district (close geographical area), work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete AUTOW’s employment application, submit to a reference verification (to include past employment and education) are required.
