What can I expect in this role?
The responsibilities of AST's Mechanical Drafter include providing detail part/assembly drawings and redline updates utilizing 2D and 3D CAD. Our Mechanical Drafter is expected to meet position responsibilities and project requirements with moderate oversight.
What will I be doing?
- Work independently with Engineering, Operations, Sales teams, and senior level Drafters on various projects.
- Produce detailed fabrication and assembly drawings from Designer/Engineer 3D models and layouts.
- Self-check and correct all work prior to submitting to the project engineers/designers for approval.
- Ensure drafting style consistency between drawings per company Drafting Standards.
- Prioritize and manage Drafting tasks to support the budgeted hours and scheduled due dates for projects.
- Utilize CAD tools to verify the nominal fits of all parts as they are detailed from an overall layout.
- Translate electronic documents between various formats from/to vendors and customers (DWG, DXF, STP, PDF, ZIP, etc.)
- Update historical drawings to current company Drafting Standards.
- Estimate the number of hours required to accomplish Drafting tasks in support of Project Manager scheduling.
- Assist with ERP data entry tasks as needed.

What experience is AST looking for?
- AAS Degree in Computer Aided Drafting or Certificate of Completion of a Computer Aided Drafting curriculum.
- Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 standards
- Working knowledge of GD&T.
- Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, or other CAD software.
- Working Knowledge in MS Office 365 products.
- Strong Mechanical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of fabrication/assembly processes.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and disciplined, with a keen attention to detail.
- Exceptionally high level of commitment to the success of projects and the collective team.
