Position Description Summary:

APT Research is looking for a Reliability Engineer to support commercial human spaceflight operations in Houston, TX. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) discipline areas.

  • Supports the design, development, integration, testing, and operation of large and complex human spaceflight programs.
  • Possess a background in spaceflight Reliability/Maintainability engineering.
  • Supports programs for all life-cycle phases from kick-off and development (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) through product delivery for flight and operations.
  • Reliability requirements development, verification and validation (V&V), and closure.
  • Develops, reviews and updates documentation (i.e., plans, assessments, analysis, etc.).
  • Performs maintainability assessments and operational procedure evaluations.
  • Completing reliability requirements development, verification & validation (V&V), and closure.
  • Provides reliability support to programs and payload projects.
  • Develops and executes Reliability and Maintainability program.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent technical degree and 6-10 years of Reliability experience.
  • Knowledge of statistics and reliability theory.
  • Reliability analysis such as Initial Assessment of Criticality, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Critical Items List, single point failure assessments, quantitative reliability analysis (QRA), and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA).
  • Critically Important: Energy, attitude, and proactive spirit are a must!
  • Critically Important: Ability to remain perpetually curious!
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgement.
  • Must be able to work in an inclusive and communicative team environment (within both large and small teams), both internal employee's and with customers present.
  • Possess an interpersonal style that enhances productivity, promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and maintains effective working relationships with other organizations and customers.
  • Ability to use effective communication and facilitation skills to gain support, influence thinking, and/or resolve concerns and conflicts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate well with different levels of management, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver high quality products on schedule.

Desired Experience:

  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) experience
  • Reliability engineering experience in the aerospace industry, reliability engineering experience at a NASA Center highly desired.
  • Experience in a commercial space program

Security Clearance Requirement: (applicants selected for positions requiring a Security Clearance will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information):

  • An active Secret clearance (or higher), or the ability to get and maintain a Secret clearance is required.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers
  • Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <15%

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk
  • Ability to lift >15 lbs.

Other Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement
  • Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
