Short Term Trader/Dispatcher II

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the real-time operations of AES US Portfolio including:
  • Dispatching generation based upon economic conditions and operational constraints
  • Developing load and wind generation forecasts
  • Purhasing and selling power, capacity, and natural gas a necessary
  • Developing and scheduling the Day Ahead bidding of power in the respective RTO market
  • Developing and scheduling the natural gas nominations
  • Monitor and analyze available market information to identify dispatching and trading opportunities
  • Manage dispatching and trading decisions with a continuous focus on balancing risk versus return to produce maximum profitability.
  • Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, unit start-up and shutdown times, and communicate all necessary to plant personel and RTO
  • Ensure compliance with AES Risk Management Policy
  • Will be able to check transactions and settlement information and resolve discrepancies
  • Be familiar with business principles and their application and able to communicate clearly and politely with potential and actual customers
Essential Dispatcher Responsibilities:
  • Complete necessary NERC certification and continuing education requirements as applicable
  • Complete necessary RTO certification and operate within RTO parameters
  • Compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards and regional ISO rules and tariffs.
  • Take timely and appropriate real time actions in accordanc ewith RTO procedures to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the RTO under normal and emergency conditions. These real time actions do not require obtaining approval from higher-level management personnel.
  • Communicate with RTO on continual basis, taking necessary actions and providing ancillary services to ensure system reliability.
  • Implementation of the daily operational plan
  • Will be familiar with all Regulatory Agency policies and guidelines as they relate to the operation of generation, transmission and distribution systems. Will be expected to operate within RTO parameters
Short Term Trading/Dispatch is a 24X7 operation, employees will be required to work abnormal schedules which include nights, weekends and holidays. Personal flexibility and willingness to adjust schedules as needed is essential.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Implements the daily operational plan. Directs company and contractor technical personnel involved with real-time implementation of actions related to RTO procedure.
  • Manage dispatching and trading decisions with a continuous focus on balancing risk versus return to produce maximum profitability
  • Will be able to check transactions and settlement information and resolve discrepancies
  • Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, unit start-up and shutdown times, and communicate all necessary to plant personel and RTO
  • Ensures necessary annual training credit hours are completed to satisfy PJM and NERC requirements (as applicable)
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, business, finance, or other relevant degree from an accredited college or university or relevant experience or equivalent military experience.
  • NERC (as applicable) and RTO certification preferred.
Other Requirements :
  • Minimum 2 Years of Experience
  • NERC and CASIO or PJM certification are preferred / If not NERC or PJM certified, candidate must complete certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer software, Microsoft Office applications
  • Competence in mathematics and technical concepts
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, forward moving environment.
  • Possesses a working understanding of operating policies and procedures of Regulatory Agencies such as the NERC and Regional Transmission Organization (RTO).
