Summary
We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team that can jump right in and contributes to the continued growth and success of our organization. The corporate office for our group of retail stores, ABC Warehouse, Hawthorne Appliance, and Mickey Shorr is located in Pontiac, MI. Family-owned and operated since 1963, we specialize in household appliances, mattresses, furniture, and home and car electronics. With 700+ employees we have grown to fifty-seven brick-and-mortar retail locations in multiple states including several internet channels.
Staff Accountant Job Duties:
• Prepare and post various G/L, A/P, A/R, F/A, and banking transaction entries monthly
• Assist with the month-end closing process, financial statement preparation, and reporting
• Prepare general ledger reconciliations and analysis reports
• Prepare and provide documentation required for all financial and lender audits
• Act as backup for all banking/treasury functions including compliance and covenant reporting
• Assist with developing and maintaining a written policy and procedure manual for the Accounting department
• Assist with preparing annual income tax work papers and related payments for multiple companies
• Assist with the company insurance renewal work papers, reporting, and claims management
• Assist with monitoring that all accounting procedures, policies, and controls are being followed
• Identify and assist with automation opportunities for greater efficiency
• Complete other projects and analyses as assigned
Staff Accountant Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
• 2-3 years experience, preferably in retail or real estate
• Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, analyze and resolve issues
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
• Pleasant, professional, and confident communication skills
• Strong analytical proficiency
• Solid experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
• Highly proficient with vLookups, Index/Match, SumIf, and other excel analytic functions
• Experience with ERP system(s) a plus
