Senior Mechanical Engineer - Robotics & Hardware Design
- Full-Time
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work in a small team of talented engineers to make our vehicles move fluidly and intuitively, transforming design requirements for vehicles with up to 24 degrees of freedom into components that allow our vehicle to walk and drive over extreme terrain. You'll join a passionate team and have high individual ownership of pieces of this challenge. You will play a critical role in identifying vehicle and component requirements, developing component and vehicle design and analysis workflows and collaborating with Controls Software, Mechatronics, and Manufacturing Engineering. - Own the design of specific components and subsystems for ultimate mobility vehicles (UMVs) from requirements through fabrication and initial testing.
- Create and implement workflow to evaluate designs using virtual environments and simulation platforms.
- Model components and subsystems in CAD software (SolidWorks)
- Perform or oversee the use of FEA structural analysis code along with hand or analytical calculations based on first principles for design improvement and reliability.
- Support the development of vehicle and subsystem requirements
- Plan and implement additional projects, budget planning, and purchasing processes, and other administrative tasks outside your core area as assigned.
- Communicate design decisions to the rest of the team and documents plans, progress, and findings using collaborate document programs (e.g., Jira and Confluence) and engineering data management programs (e.g., Valispace)
