Job Description

The distribution/wave planner has the primary responsibility for managing and building workflow for the DC including release of work to warehouse floor, balancing workflow, and ensuring optimal outbound workflow levels within the facility.  The planner will also conduct studies to discover ways to reduce costs, improve processes and optimize output.  The planner also ensures order errors are found & corrected without interruption to workflow and reply to internal requests for order tracking and status requests.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employ wave planning processes and tools to build customer orders into waves that ensures customer service level targets are met and maintained while at the same time balance workflow and optimal output across work shifts.
  • Assign and monitor the work including staging, wave times and pick assignments across multiple workflows.
  • Analyze and prepare replenishment waves to support and ensure full inventory availability for all shifts to optimize pick efficiency.
  • Works with operations managers and supervisors to level workload.
  • Controls the priority and pick levels of each order and maintain priority of emergency orders.
  • Ensures communication between picking and replenishment teams for stock replenishment needs and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Develops or assists with continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, productivity, and customer services.
  • Stay up to date with target customers, global market, and supply chains.
  • Plan and coordinate with Manager product distribution activities to meet or exceed customer demands.
  • Investigate and resolve workflow/delivery issues in a timely fashion.
  • Reviews and recommends improvements to current product distribution parameters.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and perform duties in a safe and careful manner
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following qualifications and experience:
  • At least 5 years experience in a Distribution Center or Manufacturing environment.  Familiarity with roles and processes from inbound, put-away, replenishment, picking to outbound management.
  • Previous wave planning/production planning experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills.  Able to manage large amounts of data to analyze and determine optimal workflow that optimizes customer service levels and workflow efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with various warehouse teams on priorities, process, troubleshooting & problem-solving
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of WMS wave planning and other WMS capabilities.   
  • Experience with analytical tools and reporting systems (eg. PowerBI, Business Objects, Tableau).
  • Ability to evaluate workload issues and to maximize efficiency
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving mindset and working knowledge of all DC operations
    Experience in evaluating DC work processes for efficiency.
