Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Custom Shop Production Supervisor, the Embroidery Operator position is accountable for transferring digitized design onto 5.11 Tactical product. Operates multi and single head embroidery machine. Responsible for helping with processing orders through preparing garments, programming machines for the design, and making quality adjustments as necessary. Must possess a close attention to detail and follows good judgement to exceed our customer’s expectations. Responsible for meeting department and individual goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must follow all department Standard Operating Procedures
  • Must learn or have existing experience with all Embroidery techniques and application
  • Must be familiar with all 5.11 products and their construction to better understand embellishment opportunities and limitations
  • Reads work order to determine type and location of embroidery
  • Must understand how the order needs to be produced prior to embellishment
  • Verify order for garment style, sizes, and quantities prior to beginning production
  • Extracts the correct dst file from Shopworks and enters the appropriate art into the embroidery computer system
  • Selects size and color thread and draws it through machine guides and bobbin.
  • Ensures that correct thread and needles are used
  • Produces sew-out for Embroidery Leads approval
  • Removes and replaces bobbin when needed
  • Regulate embroidery machine tension/settings
  • Watch closely for quality issues and corrects as necessary
  • Notifies Embroidery Lead of shortages with orders
  • Hoops garments correctly and efficiently
  • Applies backing and solvy if needed
  • Observes sewing operation to detect defects in stitching
  • Informs Embroidery Lead of machine malfunction
  • Repairs defective embroidery or fills in blanks left by embroidery machine
  • Uses scissors to trim away backing as necessary
  • Works ahead on prepping next order
  • Responsible for quality of each embellishment
  • Responsible for proper operation of equipment
  • Maintains neat and efficient working area
  • Assists in solutions to improve efficiencies and can troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Scans orders complete in Shopworks.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following credentials:

  • Previous work experience in a cut and sew, screen print or embroidery company preferred
  • Basic computer / keyboard knowledge is required
  • Must have or acquire functional knowledge of company ERP (Dynamics AX) and the Custom Shop production management solution Shopworks.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions. Listens and gets clarification. Listens to others without interrupting
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers to fill out production records.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision to discern colors and fine detail.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
