The location of the manufacturing and processing facility is located in an industrial district in Kalkaska, MI, approximately 25 minutes east of Traverse City, known for its natural beauty, wineries, breweries, amazing food and outdoor adventure.

Job Summary:

The Distillation Technician will assist with the production of high-quality cannabis distillate along with cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, recording and entering data, associated tasks, filtration, and other separation techniques. The Distillation Technician will be responsible for the consistent, sanitary, and safe production of oil-derived distillate utilizing company policies to successfully uphold the quality and consistency of all products produced. The individual has the responsibility of winterizing, isolating, and purifying cannabinoids using various distillation and purification techniques.

Essential/Primary Responsibilities:

Regular communication with the Management Team is to be maintained to ensure all operational needs are met and any procedural problems are addressed and resolved proactively. Responsible for using various methods to process hydrocarbon extracted crude oil into high quality cannabis distillate utilizing short-path distillation and wiped film distillation. This includes, but is not limited to techniques involving winterization, filtration, separation, and distillation.

Experience / Knowledge Required:

Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, engineering or a related field. At least one year commercial cannabis laboratory experience is preferred with skills in short path distillation, wiped film distillation, extraction, purification, chromatography and isolation of cannabinoids. Lean manufacturing and cGMP skills desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Set up, operate, and tend to equipment and various instruments according to SOPs and completion of batch records per GMP. Physically operate the system and perform short path distillation and in the future wiped film distillation. Understand and perform tasks utilizing fundamental principles in chemistry like extraction, separation, filtration, and distillation. Accurately measure and weigh ingredients, using English or metric measures, and be familiar with using and balancing scales. Perform all necessary equipment maintenance and safety checks in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Observe and listen to equipment to detect possible malfunctions, such as leaks or fractures, and report malfunctions to supervisors. Ensure that the production space is organized, clean, and sanitary throughout daily operations. Log and track all pertinent information for each post processing responsibility. Use METRC seed to sale tracking software to be able to create and modify tags for a variety of products and purposes. Use critical thinking and deductive reasoning to identify and analyze problems and come up with creative solutions. Work collectively with other team members to come up with novel ideas and techniques to improve current processes and increase efficiency of the organization as a whole. Stay up to date with cutting edge purification and distillation techniques through various digital and print media. Exercise extreme caution and attention to detail around the scientific glassware to prevent breakage. Follow all safety protocols put into place for machine operation every time. Be able to lift up to 50lbs. Be able to stand on feet for extended periods of time. Perform other official duties as assigned.

Laboratory Experience: Three years
