The position Analytical Chemist-FTIR Focus is within the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Laboratory. The position is in support of 3M's efforts in area of chemical stewardship and involved with measurement of physical/chemical properties of chemicals and laboratory investigations of their environmental fate and transport. The position involves analysis using Gas-Phase Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). This position includes performing quantitative analytical test methods, data analysis, and writing analytical test reports in accordance to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP's) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 testing laboratory accreditation.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
+ Develop and perform quantitative analysis test methods using gas-phase FTIR spectroscopy
+ Prepare samples using multiple methods of gas-phase sample preparation and introduction techniques
+ Conduct gas-phase kinetic rate studies and product off gas experiments
+ Prepare and characterize chemical standard mixtures to support the quantification of chemicals in environmental matrices.
+ Prepare detailed laboratory reports, data sheets and other documentation in accordance to U.S. EPA GLP's and the ISO17025 testing laboratory accreditation.
+ Possess a Bachelor's degree in a science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
+ Minimum one (1) year experience with quantitative Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and/or Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) instrumental analysis in a private, public, government or military environment
+ Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related discipline from an accredited institution
+ Experience with one or more aspects of environmental chemical fate testing procedures and approaches
+ Experience performing FTIR or GC/MS in a U.S. EPA GLP compliant and/or ISO/International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 17025 accredited environmental testing laboratory.
+ Strong analytical chemistry knowledge and proficiency with MKS and/or MIDAC FTIR instrumentation/software.
+ Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly
+ Preparation of gas standards and the handling and analysis of pressurized gases
+ Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent documentation skills, ability to work independently to complete projects, as well as work with cross-functional teams
+ Microsoft Office proficient, LabWare a plus
