Seeking a hands-on Director of Accounting & FP&A, to build a world class accounting function and maximize return on financial assets. This position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Director of Accounting and FP&A will also direct the financial planning and analysis, and debt financing and budget management functions. This position requires prior experience and excellence in financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting, with an emphasis on profitable performance, this requires a high level of technical expertise as it pertains to accounting and business intelligence systems. Successful with M&A transactions.

Responsibilities of the Director of Accounting & FP&A:


Direct all aspects of the Accounting Operations, including accounts payable, general ledger management, internal controls, external audits, and cash management. Ensure that transactions are recorded properly and minimize all opportunities for fraud or impropriety, including the safeguard of assets.
Prepare timely and accurate GAAP financial statements and reports, driven by tightly managed monthly/quarterly close process.
Manage, mentor, and provide development paths for accounting and future FP&A team members, including hiring, training, motivating, developing, and addressing performance issues.
Identify cost savings, mitigate risks and opportunities throughout the close process.
Drive continuous improvement in all processes.
Provide detailed variance analysis on P/L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements, enforcing accountability and initiating corrective actions.
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
Manage the process and payments for sales tax in Avalara tax compliance software
Manage key external relationships including auditors, bankers, and tax preparers
Act as liaison for quarterly reviews and annual audits with external auditors
Maintain the chart of accounts

Financial Planning & Analysis

Lead the FP&A function by performing budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. Own insights and analytics into the company's current and future financial and strategic objectives.
Experience with financial reports, modeling exercises, interpreting, and communicating operating and financial information.
Provide key insights and analytics to senior leadership on actual and projected income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement monthly.
Builds and drives efficient, effective, and comprehensive processes for developing financial plans and models which support the Company's strategic objectives and provide value-added insights.
Lead financial and decision-support analytics to Senior Leadership team to support key business initiatives and decisions.
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt agreements.


Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; with an MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred.
10+ years of financial and accounting experience and 6+ years managing a team
Documented success working as a part of a company's senior management team to strategize and function as a true business partner to the management team.
Robust knowledge of GAAP and ability to apply principles effectively and accurately throughout areas of responsibility
High level technical experience using Great Plains or similar ERP software and Avalara or similar tax compliance software
Documented success with M&A transactions.
Exceptional Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills. SQL a plus
International experience preferred, specifically in Asia and Europe
E-commerce or retail experience
Director level relationship management and negotiation experience is required
Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated influencing abilities
Proven ability to operate at high level and dive into details when necessary
Organizational and time-management skills and a demonstrated ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
Limited International and Domestic travel required
