Software Engineer - Intern

{SAW} Software Mill is wholly committed to agile development practices. You will be working with a team of experienced developers through one of many multi-year international software development projects. You will be active members of our development teams, participating in sprint planning, software estimating, feature prioritization, as well as interfacing with customers, end-users and stakeholders. Exceptional candidates may be tasked with leading a group of fellow interns through sprints, and reporting outcomes directly to the senior management team.

{SAW} Software Mill is committed to working actively with local institutions to extend their internships into independent study or for-credit programs within their academic curricula. This will allow students to transition back into their academic studies while still participating in the project as contributing team members, switching from partial to full participation based upon academic schedule availability. Additionally SAWSoft may offer additional internships during scholastic breaks as and when project and academic schedules align.

{SAW} Software Mill provides internships to those candidates who are still active in academic studies.

• Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify complex software enhancement features and/or new software products
• Debug and fix software defects
• Participate in code reviews
• Participate in project teams to create working software
• Contribute to development best practices, standards and processes
• Refactor code on project assignments
• Prepare code and documentation
• Contribute to and influence project planning and estimating
• Protect company proprietary and confidential information
• Leverage existing modules and components in the creation of new solutions
• Other duties as assigned

• Associate / Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required (or currently enrolled).
• 2+ years software development experience (C++ and/or C# preferred).
• A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with one or more Agile development practices.
• Passionate about user experience and quality.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
• Creative problem solving skills are a must.
• Comfortable with ambiguity.
• Welcome to change.

Desired experiences and skills:
• WPF and MVVM architecture pattern
• Microsoft SQL and/or Microsoft Azure

• Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Applicants must be available to work on site at our offices in Asheville, NC.
