Job description

TITLE: Mechanic

POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Non-Exempt

COMPANY: Sharks Sports and Entertainment, LLC

LOCATION: Sharks Ice at San Jose – Building Ops

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $27-28.50 per hour

Position Overview

Sharks Ice at San Jose is seeking a highly skilled, dependable, and hands-on Mechanic to support one of the largest and busiest ice rink facilities in the country. This position is responsible for the reliability, safety, and performance of all ice resurfacing equipment and related arena systems. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical knowledge and expertise, excellent troubleshooting skills, and pride in doing things the right way. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a world-class facility with the best ice, staff training, equipment uptime, and overall facility operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of ice resurfacers, ice edgers, chippers, and related arena equipment
  • Conduct and document routine preventative maintenance, including blade changes, oil changes, lubrication, and scheduled service
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, propane, electrical, and control system issues
  • Execute major and emergency repairs efficiently to minimize downtime
  • Respond to urgent equipment issues during off-hours as needed to support operations
  • Maintain parts inventory and orders critical parts & supplies
  • Provide initial and ongoing training for Ice Technicians on equipment operation, safety, and standard operating procedures
  • Establish and maintain clear communication across Ice Technicians, Supervisors, and Management
  • Work closely with management to develop action plans and ensure consistent execution of SOPs
  • Serve as Building Supervisor while on duty when required, supporting overall facility and event operations
  • Deliver professional, solutions-based service at all times
  • Assist with general facility maintenance and arena upkeep as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, emergency procedures, and evacuation protocols
  • Anticipate mechanical issues and proactively recommend solutions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support rink operations

Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver's License
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience (industrial, heavy equipment, fleet, or facility maintenance preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Internal combustion engines (propane preferred)
  • Hydraulics
  • Electrical systems and diagnostics
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently and work effectively under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset
  • Certified Ice Technician (CIT) – US Rink Association (Preferred)
  • Experience operating heavy equipment or warehouse machinery (Preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead andlift upto 60 lbs with or without accommodation
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work on concrete and ice surfaces for extended periods with or without accommodation
  • Ability to crawl, reach and lay under ice resurfaces or other essential equipment with or without accommodation
  • Comfortable working in cold environments
  • Flexibility to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by rink operations (all with advance notice)
  • May be required to travel to other company locations
