What are Weekend Hydrogen Energy jobs?

Weekend Hydrogen Energy jobs typically involve working part-time or on a flexible schedule over the weekends in the field of hydrogen energy. These roles may include positions in research, production, maintenance, or operation of hydrogen fuel systems. Workers might help monitor hydrogen production, ensure safety protocols, or assist in laboratory or plant settings. Weekend shifts are often offered to accommodate continuous operations or project demands, making these jobs ideal for students or professionals seeking supplementary income.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hydrogen Energy Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hydrogen Energy Engineer, you need a strong background in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering, with specialized knowledge in hydrogen production, storage, and fuel cell technology. Familiarity with simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Aspen Plus), safety protocols, and relevant certifications like Certified Energy Manager (CEM) are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork set outstanding professionals apart in this field. These skills are essential for designing safe, efficient hydrogen energy systems and advancing innovative solutions in the renewable energy sector.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working weekend shifts in the hydrogen energy sector?

Professionals working weekend shifts in hydrogen energy often encounter challenges such as maintaining continuous operation of production or storage facilities, swiftly addressing unexpected technical issues, and coordinating with limited on-site staff. Communication with weekday teams is essential to ensure smooth handovers and consistent progress on projects. Additionally, weekend roles may require greater autonomy and proactive problem-solving since support resources can be more limited outside regular business hours.

Job description

Electric Hydrogen's mission is to make molecules to decarbonize our world! Our outstanding people are our most important asset and will allow us to deliver hydrogen from renewable electrolysis for heavy industry, at prices below fossil fuels.
We are seeking a Field Engineer for a Texas-based remote role responsible for owning field operations at Electric Hydrogen's West Texas (Pecos) plant. This position serves as the primary on-site technical resource, ensuring reliable operation, successful commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of the EH2 plant, while also providing support for other EH2 sites as needed.
You will work with a high degree of autonomy, supporting field execution while partnering closely with operations, engineering, and product teams. This role includes hands-on troubleshooting, customer/site engagement, and continuous improvement of field operations.
This role requires significant travel during the 2026 commissioning phase, including extended on-site assignments at the Pecos plant. Travel demands are expected to decrease following customer handover in 2027, transitioning primarily to preventive maintenance and reactive support needs. Work schedules may include extended hours, weekends, holiday coverage, and urgent off-hours support as needed. Remote work flexibility is available when not on-site. All travel-related expenses, including lodging and meals, are covered by Electric Hydrogen.
Primary Responsibilities
• Own operational readiness for the Pecos plant ahead of customer handover
• Own plant performance and uptime during customer operations
• Support installation, commissioning, and startup activities prior to customer handover
• Troubleshoot operational issues and lead root cause analysis (RCA) efforts
• Serve as the primary on-site field engineering contact for Electric Hydrogen's West Texas customer site
• Respond to urgent operational issues to minimize downtime and restore plant functionality
• Generate reports and present plant performance updates during regular customer meetings
• Act as an escalation point for field-related issues, coordinating cross-functional support when required
• Execute preventive, reactive, and predictive maintenance activities alongside customer and contract technicians
• Manage inventory, spare parts, replacement cycles, and equipment logistics
• Partner with supply chain and operations teams to improve spare parts strategies and lead times
• Ensure proper storage, traceability, and readiness of field tools and maintenance materials
• Utilize CMMS systems for maintenance planning, work order management, backlog tracking, maintenance records, and asset tracking
• Monitor plant health and improve diagnostic capabilities
• Develop and refine SOPs, checklists, training materials, and field service procedures
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
• 3+ years of field engineering or similar hands-on experience supporting industrial or process equipment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Experience within energy, electrochemical, hydrogen, or industrial systems environments
• Experience supporting commissioning and maintenance activities
• Familiarity with CMMS systems, spare parts planning, inventory management, and logistics coordination
• Strong customer-facing communication and relationship management skills
• Based in Texas or willing to relocate to Texas to support the high on-site presence required during the commissioning phase (2026 through early 2027)
