Position Details

The position of the Project Manager is responsible for managing multiple projects at various stages, overseeing projects from pre-construction to closeouts. Project Managers will work with the Estimating department during the bid process, analyze blueprints/specifications, review proposals/project requirements, understand and ensure adherence with contracts, secure required permits/utility services, coordinate materials procurement, ensure compliance with corporate policies and federal/state laws including OSHA, provide status updates and maintain documentation records. Responsibilities include customer interaction, material requisition, submittal compilation, purchase orders, on-site job walk-throughs, change orders request for information, pay application support, scheduling of resources and equipment, and close-out of documents. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude and good work ethic. Some travel required.


Candidates must be located in the Greater Richmond Area, or willing to relocate. This is not a remote or hybrid position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple projects related to Electric Utility Transmission, Distribution and/or Substation construction and maintenance.
  • Manage all phases of the Construction projects including initial planning and development through each project phase of engineering and design, resource management, installation, start-up and the final turnover to owner.
  • Maintain the partner relationship with customers and other partners to ensure effective and timely results against project plans and deliverables.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Follow C.W. Wrightโ€™s policies, client policies, procedures and project control requirements to plan, organize, monitor, control and report project status and ensure financial/operating costs are within budget.
  • Analyze operational and financial data on a regular basis to determine trends and to develop forecasts, prepare and implement recovery plans and alternative strategies for risk mitigation to assure overall success of the project.
  • Identify and monitor events/risks that could impact the project and to incorporate mitigation plans into the project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Prepare monthly project status reports and provide regular updates directly to the internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understand all aspects of construction contracts (including terms & conditions, scope of work, construction standards, engineering drawings, etc.) and ensure compliance with contract requirements. Draft and negotiate contracts with subcontract partners. Serve as the point of contact with the client and partners on contractual matters.
  • Assist project personnel to resolve problems and escalate as appropriate.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering, and/or Business and/or Construction related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 4-6 years of utility engineering, and/or construction, an/or operations project management experience including experience with Electric Transmission, Distribution and Substations.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in the Electric or Utility Industry, Construction Management or Heavy Construction Industry.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex multi-disciplined projects simultaneously. Experience managing projects ranging from $500k-$25M+.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of project scope development, engineering, licensing, permitting, procurement, installation, testing, etc.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, conflict management, and leadership skills. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, OneDrive/Sharepoint, Powerpoint, and MS Project.
  • Experience managing and analyzing project-level financials. Working knowledge of SAP is preferred.
Other Requirements:

ยท This position requires up to 90% travel as needed, driving to jobsites in Mid-Atlantic and South. Applicants must possess a valid driverโ€™s license and clean driver history. Travel and work away from home for extended periods of time as required.

ยท Pass pre-employment drug screening and adhere to zero tolerance drug policy.

ยท Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and instruction manuals. Basic knowledge of overhead and underground power construction, maintenance and repair, and the necessary tools, materials and equipment necessary to perform these operations, preferred.

ยท Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills, with ability to work under minimal supervision.

ยท Ability to acclimate to conditions such as heat, cold, odor/fumes, dust, mechanical and electrical hazards. Work around and in close proximity to high voltages, in trenches, etc., in dusty, dirty work environments.
