Job description

Patient Care Technician I

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the PCT I performs delegated patient care activities in a manner that is aligned with the age specific needs of the patient to ensure safe, accurate, and high-quality care. PCT I is an entry level position whose job functions include but are not limited to: providing for a patient's activities of daily living (ADLs); limited screening, collection, and recording of data and information; maintenance of unit supplies and equipment; patient transporting; answering call-lights, telephone, Vocera. There are four pathways of entry into the PCT I position (see EXPERIENCE). If coworker is under the age of 18, he/she may not operate a power-driven hoisting apparatus such as a Hoyer Lift.

What You Can Expect
  • Perform activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, oral care, grooming (shaving), urinary catheter and ostomy care; assists with meals and feeding; assists with positioning, ambulation, and mobilization; assists with elimination and toileting.
  • Screening/Collection/Recording data & information: vital signs, intake & output, weights, specimen collection.
  • Restocks patient room and unit supplies, performs equipment checks.
  • Transports patients by wheelchair, cart, bed, bassinet.
  • Answers patient call-lights, telephones, Vocera. Communicates and reports patient data and information to the RN.
Qualifications
  • Preferred High School Diploma/GED
  • Nursing student after having completed 1st semester of clinicals Required
  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Required
  • Prior PCT experience in another acute care health care organization Required
  • After completion of Franciscan PCT In-training program Required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) - American Heart Association Franciscan will provide BCLS training and recertification as needed.
