JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Streets Crew Leader leads and participates in the daily activities of work crews performing construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets, rights-of-way, and drainage systems. This position assists with coordinating work assignments, maintaining safe work zones, operating equipment, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and safely.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviews daily work assignments with the General Foreman and assists with planning crew activities, work priorities, and project timelines.
  • Leads and participates in street maintenance and repair activities including asphalt work, drainage maintenance, patching, grading, and related construction tasks.
  • Assigns work duties and provides direction and support to maintenance crew members in the field.
  • Operates and inspects trucks, tools, and heavy equipment to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Performs minor maintenance and servicing of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Establishes and maintains traffic control and work zone safety measures in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Monitors work progress and assists in ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Participate in employee training and annual performance evaluations as assigned.
  • Maintains effective communication with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
  • Responds to emergency situations and after-hours callouts as required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily outdoors in high-traffic areas and requires exposure to moving vehicles, construction equipment, loud noise, hazardous materials, fumes, dust, and varying weather conditions. Duties may require standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and operating heavy equipment for extended periods of time. May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • One (1) year of experience in street maintenance, construction, drainage operations, or related public works activities is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • A valid State driver's license may be required.

Knowledge:
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and safety standards related to public works operations.
  • Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in street maintenance and construction.
  • Traffic control procedures and work zone safety practices.
  • Basic maintenance practices for vehicles and equipment.
  • Records maintenance and reporting procedures.
  • Occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Safely operate tools, vehicles, and construction equipment.
  • Lead and coordinate the work of assigned crew members.
  • Read and interpret work orders, instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Organize work activities and prioritize assignments to meet operational needs.
  • Perform measurements and basic calculations accurately.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
