Job Description
The Ultrasound\Vascular Lab Tech (R) works under the supervision of the Director, Associate Director, Manager, and Lead Technologist to provide the technical knowledge and expertise to safely and accurately perform sonograms in abdominal, OB/GYN, breast, and vascular specialties. In addition, technologists assists the radiologists in performing invasive procedures, accurately charting, and consenting patients for procedures. Is responsible for taking ultrasound call as necessary to ensure 24 hour / 7 days ultrasound services. Schedules specific times for exams, considering priority.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret a provider's instructions. Communicates with nursing staff and providers regarding clinical procedures.
  • Screen patients. Reviews the patient's medical record to verify the appropriateness of a specific exam or procedure.
  • Explain procedures to patients. Refers questions about diagnosis, treatment or prognosis to a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Prepare patients for procedures.
  • Performs procedures by visualization of anatomy and recording images. Performs procedures in accordance with policy and procedure manual.
  • Assisting with sonographic imaging in the ER, OR, and Interventional Radiology departments
  • View images from an imaging session and keep records of the results.
  • Review and complete patient exam and charges within the radiology information system. Records technical comments for interpreting providers.
  • Helps prepare quality assurance reports to determine accuracy, give technical explanation for fallouts and confers with leader for actions on fallouts. Performs quality assessment procedures for accuracy of results.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals. Assists with orientation of new staff members and students.
  • Performs limited preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education
  • Completion of an Ultrasound Program/OR equivalent meeting ARDMS standards for registry requirements. - Required

Work Experience
  • 1 Year - Related experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 Days
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - Abdomen, OB/GYN, or RVT are required as follows: Completion of two registries within twelve (12) months of employment. Completion of the third registry within eighteen (18) months of employment. - Required Upon Hire Or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - RVT when working in vascular clinic; OB/GYN when working in women's health clinic. - Required Upon Hire

Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

  • Inputting data, calibrating equipment, answering telephone, speaking clearly, manipulating small items, fine motor skills, knowledge of body mechanics and CPR.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors, physicians, etc.
  • Must work well as a team member.

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Walking, pushing, pulling, lifting 35 lbs., and restraining, moving equipment, standing, kneeling.

  • Interpret data, manipulate numbers, calculate, explain, adaptability.

Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Visual skills, hear, distinguish color.

Exposure to Hazards
  • Radiation, body fluids, needle sticks, hazardous materials.

  • Caregiver must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age group(s): Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal.
