Job description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team in North Miami, Florida on a contract basis with the potential for a long-term opportunity. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage core financial activities, support accurate reporting, and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment. The position offers the opportunity to contribute strong technical accounting expertise, advanced Excel capabilities, and experience with Tyler Munis in a hands-on setting.
Responsibilities:
• Record and post journal entries accurately to maintain complete and reliable financial data.
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances to support the integrity of the general ledger.
• Assist with month-end closing activities, ensuring deadlines are met and financial records are properly updated.
• Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules for internal review and operational decision-making.
• Use Tyler Munis software to process accounting transactions and maintain organized financial information.
• Analyze accounting data in Excel using advanced formulas, pivot tables, and other tools to identify trends and exceptions.
• Support tax-related accounting tasks, including areas involving corporate tax and sales tax documentation.
• Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with public sector, municipal, or government experience strongly preferred.

• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and established accounting compliance standards.

• Hands-on experience with Tyler Technologies Munis is required.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis functions.

• Proven ability to prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting deliverables.

• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to balance competing priorities.
