What are TV Translators and what do they do?

TV Translators are broadcast relay stations that receive a television signal from a primary station and retransmit it to areas where direct reception is poor or unavailable. They help extend the coverage of TV broadcasts to rural or geographically challenging regions. TV Translators typically operate on different frequencies than the original signal and are crucial for ensuring wider access to television programming. Their operation is regulated by government agencies to avoid interference and maintain broadcast quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a TV Translator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a TV Translator, you need excellent proficiency in at least two languages, strong command of grammar, and a background in translation or linguistics. Familiarity with audiovisual translation software, subtitling tools, and sometimes certifications such as ATA or equivalent are commonly required. Attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and strong time management are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate, culturally relevant, and timely translation of broadcast content for diverse audiences.

What are some common challenges faced by TV Translators when localizing content for different regions?

TV Translators often encounter challenges such as adapting cultural references, idioms, or humor that may not have direct equivalents in the target language. They must ensure that the translated content remains accurate, contextually relevant, and engaging for the local audience while adhering to broadcast standards and deadlines. Collaborating closely with editors, producers, and sometimes voice actors is crucial to maintain consistency and quality across episodes or series. Additionally, TV Translators may need to stay updated on current events and regional sensitivities to avoid miscommunication or offense.

Job description

Company Summary
EchoStar is reimagining the future of connectivity. Our business reach spans satellite television service, live-streaming and on-demand programming, smart home installation services, mobile plans and products.
Today, our brands include Boost Mobile, DISH TV, Gen Mobile, Hughes and Sling TV.
Department Summary
Beyond connecting customers to their favorite entertainment, our Video Services team delivers an award-winning TV experience to millions of customers across DISH TV and Sling TV platforms. Our dynamic teams are unwavering in our commitment to continuous innovation, ensuring the evolution of products and the constant enhancement of the overall customer experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The paid social ecosystem for DISH TV and Sling TV demands a strategic leader who can move beyond generic, cookie-cutter assets to drive profitable subscriber acquisition. Managing a multi-million dollar budget and directing enterprise-level agency partners, this Denver-based role bridges the gap between creative marketing operations, agency execution, and advanced technical performance infrastructure. The primary challenge involves optimizing unit economics (CPAs, LTV, and ROMI) while scaling a robust, performance-driven creator and influencer engine. Success in this role requires elevating platform-native creative frameworks and implementing advanced analytical models to ensure every dollar spent drives net-positive business profitability.
What Success Looks Like (Objectives)
  • Architect the comprehensive, end-to-end paid social media roadmap for DISH and Sling TV, establishing unique acquisition strategies and audience frameworks tailored to the nuances of each platform.
  • Transform top-funnel influencer initiatives into a high-converting performance engine by collaborating with creators to produce native, scalable assets amplified via paid structures like Meta Partnership Ads and TikTok Spark Ads.
  • Direct external agency partners with deep platform acumen, co-creating testing roadmaps and guiding daily optimizations to align with macro business goals.
  • Partner with internal analytics and finance teams to integrate marketing mix modeling (MMM), multi-touch attribution (MTA), and incrementality insights directly into channel KPIs.
  • Incorporate generative AI tools and creative automation platforms to rapidly scale dynamic creative optimization (DCO) and test high-velocity variations of short-form video.
  • Standardize and enforce a rigid cross-channel campaign naming taxonomy across the agency ecosystem to ensure pristine reporting on creative cohorts and specific programming verticals.

Skills, Experience and Requirements
Core Skills and Competencies (What you'll bring)
  • Deep strategic expertise in platform-native creative direction, with the ability to translate performance data into high-converting assets and structured creative testing matrices.
  • Advanced financial acumen in managing large-scale media budgets, with a proven ability to evaluate multi-platform performance through unit economics, target CPAs, and LTV-to-CAC ratios.
  • Technical mastery of marketing infrastructure, including server-to-server tracking, Conversions API (CAPI), and how paid social inputs feed into macro Econometric/Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) and MTA frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management capabilities, enabling the translation of complex social data and platform mechanics into clear, ROI-driven business cases for executive leadership.
  • Critical experience guiding and challenging enterprise-level media agencies of record (AOR) to co-create robust testing roadmaps and ensure operational alignment.
  • AI literacy and application skills, specifically utilizing AI-driven creative tools and predictive analytics platforms to optimize asset performance and streamline audience targeting.

Additional Qualifications
  • MBA preferred.
  • Background in subscription-based businesses, entertainment streaming apps, or telecom networks.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year university in Marketing, Business, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of experience in digital marketing or media, with a minimum of 3+ years of experience leading high-velocity paid social portfolios at scale.
  • Must have fluency with:
    • Meta Ads Manager
    • TikTok Ads Manager
    • Directing enterprise-level media agencies of record (AOR)
