Description
The Operations Manager is responsible for managing all operations and day-to-day traffic activities for the warehouse facility in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing excellent customer service.

Compensation: $90k - $130k incentive eligible
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Essential Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the planning, organizing, and management of all manufacturing activities including but not limited to turning, straightening, centerless grinding, saw cutting, and thermal heat treating processes.
  • Oversees the planning, organizing and management of all operational activities relating to receiving, storing, order filing, processing, loading and shipping through the most efficient and cost-effective processes.
  • Reviews and approves the scheduling of plant activities to ensure that service level requirements are met for both direct customers and other Company facilities.
  • Manages production lead times competitive with the market and in support of sales.
  • Directs the quality processes and ISO compliance and ensures that product quality standards are maintained through proper training and utilization of established inspection techniques. Initiates corrective action and process improvement where appropriate.
  • Evaluates material and workflow, equipment, plant layout and machinery performance on an ongoing basis and initiates corrective action and process improvements where appropriate.
  • Ensures the development and maintenance of an economical and efficient delivery of materials for the Company and to its customers; this includes equipment, services, and personnel as well as logistics as it relates to customers and intercompany transfers.
  • Monitors budget performance and recommends departmental expenditures including capital requirements.
  • Recommends staffing levels and, upon approval, hires employees required to meet operating objectives and service level requirements. Provides training and development of plant personnel.
  • Manages the maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds, and provides for repairs while also taking preventive actions necessary to protect the Company's assets.
  • Ensures compliance with the corporate safety program and provides housekeeping which is consistent with established standards.
  • Ensures that all Company human resources policies and practices are being administered in conformance with established contracts and/or guidelines. Maintains positive relations with union where appropriate and represents the Company in the grievance procedures.
  • Manages talent development, ensuring that direct reports have appropriate developmental activities/assignments/courses.
  • Reviews performance of subordinates regularly and conducts formal evaluations when scheduled. Recommends appropriate changes in status.
  • Strong attention to safety, committed to sending every employee home safe, every day.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Stooping, standing, and manual dexterity
  • Light lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)
  • Ability to travel as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience: Type, Skills, and Years:
  • Five years of progressive industrial/manufacturing experience
  • Supervisor/management experience
  • Understanding of workflow design, process layouts and capital equipment optimization
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Solid presentation and negotiation skills with ability to present technical information and concepts in order to initiate change and drive initiatives
  • Excellent team-building skills with demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain productive business relationships
  • Strong analytical abilities and organization skills
  • Excellent project management skills, including the identification and scheduling of project deliverables, milestones, tasks, and deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with other functional areas in order to improve service levels, resolve service problems, and reduce costs/improve efficiencies
  • Good problem-solving skills with ability to develop new ideas in order to provide innovative solutions

Required Education:
  • University/Bachelor's - Degree Program or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of/experience with LEAN or Six Sigma
  • University/Bachelor's - Degree Program: Industrial management, engineering or business, or related field
  • Previous knowledge of a union environment and union negoiations
