Job description

Job Summary

Position responsible for providing high quality medical nutrition therapy to patients and clients. Areas of responsibility include assessment of nutritional needs, provision of medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education. The incumbent is required to function on a multi-disciplinary team as a resource to the physician staff and others. May participate in community service by providing nutrition education to various groups or individuals outside the hospital.
This position is looking for weekday coverage at our medical center TIRR Rehab location:
*20 hrs. week 3 days per week 6–8-hour shifts
*Flexible coverage during the week but preferred Mon, Wed and Thursday coverage.
*Mainly inpatient patients.Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition or related area. Master's required if registration was obtained after Jan 1, 2024

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must be registered with the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association or obtained within six (6) months of hire

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Completion of a qualified professional experience required for the registered dietitian exam administered by the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Must have the ability to interact positively with many types of people
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Principal Accountabilities

  • Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary treatment team. 
  • Establishes goals for nutrition care of patients, conducts assessments, and develops individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status.
  • Provides medical nutrition therapy to patients and clients appropriate for their age. 
  • Modifies nutrition regimens according to food preferences, tolerances, and cultural and religious preferences.
  • Documents nutrition care plans in the medical record, including nutrition assessment, monitoring parameters, goals and recommendations.
  • Provides nutrition education to patients and/or families that is appropriate for age, religious beliefs, and cultural background.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staffs and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
