TITLE:            High School Small Learning Community Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's Degree
  2. Illinois State Administrative Certificate
  3. Three years of successful teaching, administrative, or supervisory experience
  4. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

a.   Ability to exert strong leadership in the handling of students and student-related issues such as, but not limited to, discipline and attendance
b.  Knowledge of sound secondary education programs
c.   Thorough knowledge of adolescent counseling, guidance, and psychology, and the ability to translate same into sound practice
d.   Ability to make firm decisions in the areas of responsibility
e.   Ability to function effectively as a member of the high school administrative team
f.   Ability to communicate effectively

JOB GOAL:    To provide small learning community leadership, to help students resolve such nonacademic problems as may interfere with their getting the greatest educational benefit from the school's educational opportunities, and to help students achieve the fullest benefits from the school's non-academic programs, services, and offerings.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
(The following are the essential fundamentals to include but not limited to the following job duties.)




  1. Helps maintain a healthy educational climate, together with good student discipline.
  2. Assumes leadership responsibilities for the "school within the school"
  3. Administers Board Policies, Administrative Regulations, and Board-Employee Agreements at the school building level.
  4. Assists in the supervision, direction, and evaluation of the high school staff, as directed by the Principal
  5. Processes attendance and discipline issues.
  6. Reports on the status of school programs and activities, as directed by the Principal.
  7. Serves as a resource person in counseling staff members regarding schedules.
  8. Attends and chaperones school activities, as directed by the Principal.
  9. Assists the 12-month Assistant Principal in adjusting student schedules and elections.
  10. Assists with student supervision.
  11. Assists students with their academic, personal, and social problems.
  12. Assists in the supervision of the detention room.
  13. Assumes the duties of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and the 12-month Assistant Principal, as directed by the Principal
  14. Assists and substitutes for the school nurse as needed.
  15. Assists with public relations for the building.
  16. Provides for adequate supervision for field trips and other educational activities away from the school.
  17. Assists in the supervision of students during passing periods.
  18. Other job-related duties as assigned.

 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
                        Salary is based upon the salary schedule established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff and occasionally with the public and must be able to exchange accurate information.
