Purchasing Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Perform buying, negotiating and inventory management functions to ensure a continuous supply of products through procuring and maintaining adequate inventory levels in a JIT food manufacturing environment. This position focuses on inventory management and procurement tasks. Interact directly with suppliers, negotiate supplier agreements and contracts, and support the Director of Purchasing as directed. This position is required to closely interact with the Operations, Quality, Marketing, and Transportation teams to provide a superior customer experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Procurement of perishable, non-perishable, and component items for manufacturing use.
  • Source quality products efficiently and accurately to save the company money.
  • Source value-added products/services/equipment to maximize purchasing power.
  • Maintain computer inventory tracking spreadsheet.
  • Prequalify vendors, negotiate pricing, verify product specs, and ensure all costs and purchase orders are accurate prior to purchase.
  • Determine and maintain min/max inventory levels based on lead time, shelf life, minimum order requirement, and safety stock.
  • Work closely with Logistics and Receiving departments to develop the most efficient pick up/delivery flow for incoming products.
  • Perform inventory in the plant, coolers, dry storage, production office, and office areas as needed.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal departments and co-workers.
  • Plan and work closely with Production Planning department to fill needs for production.
  • Develop positive, long-term partnerships with vendors.
  • Develop request for proposal, consolidate purchases products and vendors, negotiate contracts for best price and value add opportunities, lock in extended “contract” style purchases that are reoccurring.
  • Strive to maintain continuous improvement on processes and procedures, record keeping, and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-5+ years of food industry experience a plus
  • Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Office, Excel etc.
  • Ability to analyze data and run comparative analysis
  • Maintain high levels of organization and detail
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings
  • 2 years of college preferred
