SUMMARY: The Controls Project Engineer will be responsible for designing complex building automation systems (BAS) utilizing Microsoft Visio design software to plan the installation of current and legacy control equipment components while meeting the specific project requirements. Programming This position reports directly and has duties assigned by the Controls Engineering Team Leader, and requires coordination with the Controls Project Managers and Field Technicians during system installation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review contract documents including plans, specifications, and, project proposals to determine the specific project requirements in order to plan system design.
  • Author project Requests for Information (RFIs) to be sent to the engineer of record to clarify any potential issues related to system controllability, sequence of operations clarifications, or items that do not meet applicable building codes.
  • Create installation controls submittals including, mechanical flow diagrams, controller wiring diagrams, valve and damper selection, and project record documents utilizing Microsoft Visio design software.
  • Coordinate with project manager during review of controls submittals prior to submission for engineer review and ordering of the project bill of materials.
  • Selection of components that meet project specification requirements while meeting project budget requirements.
  • Finalizing system sequence of operations for final review by project manager, engineering team leader, and engineer of record review.
  • Providing technical assistance to Project Managers, and Field Technicians during installation of controls systems.
  • Providing controller programming for use in project system controllers of complex hvac systems including Air Handling, Chilled Water and Hot water generation plants, and building level energy management controllers.
  • Ensure proper system operation by coordinating with Field Technicians during project installation and project closeout.
  • Provide Project Manager and Field Technician support for any third party commissioning of projects.
  • Provide exceptional customer service for internal and external customers.

TEAMWORK:
  • Demonstrate and promote cooperation and teamwork throughout the Company
  • Continually look for ways to improve processes in the Controls Projects business unit
  • Improve knowledge base of controls engineering through self learning and taking part in skills improvement training, while sharing gained knowledge with team members.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
  • Provide responsive professional and diplomatic customer service.
  • Respond to customer calls and correspondence expeditiously and in a professional manner.
  • Perform all duties with the goal of maintaining and building long-term customer relationships.
  • Address any external and internal customer concerns and requests within the scope of the project while considering customer relationship.

SAFETY:
  • Follow all company safety programs and report any non-compliance to the Controls Engineering Team Leader.
  • Proper Personal Protective Equipment must be utilized at all times when required.
  • Report all Human Resource related incidents to the Controls Engineering Team Leader immediately.
  • Complete all required safety training courses as assigned and within the required due date.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty as assigned and to the quality standards set forth by the Controls Engineering Team Leader. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Engineering degree (BSME or BSEE preferred) with a minimum of 2 years technical experience in the installation of building automation systems. Familiarity with the concepts of commercial building construction, and, renovation of commercial buildings. Must be proficient in reading and understanding of HVAC Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing plans and specifications.
  • Experience designing, installing, and, programming building automation systems, experience with Trane systems controllers as a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical building code. Knowledge of HVAC and Electrical design, and engineering theory.
  • Understanding of basic programming, and low voltage circuit design and theory.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Experience with Microsoft Visio Design software preferred, or equivalent experience utilizing CAD design software. Basic programming experience preferred. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Word, and Excel.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND AFFILIATIONS: This position entails continual learning of current, legacy, and future building automation system controls components. Certifications in any of the following are recommended: ASHRAE, LEED AP, AEE, BCA, NEEBM, AABC. Licenses in any of the following are a plus: EIT, CEM, CBCP, ACP, CCP, CEA, PEM, PE.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and compose technical information. Ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner that can be understood by individuals without knowledge or experience in building automation systems.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and convert in all units of measure.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract, and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate frequently is required to walk and use hands to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone. TRAVEL REQUIREMENT: Jobsite locations vary and travel to jobsites may be up to 40% of assigned duties. Occasional overnight travel may also be required.
