Both roles involve network infrastructure, but Telecommunication Detail Engineers focus on detailed telecom infrastructure deployment and maintenance, while Network Design Engineers concentrate on planning and designing network systems. The roles often overlap in certifications and work environments, but their primary responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are some common challenges faced by Telecommunication Detail Engineers during project implementation?

Telecommunication Detail Engineers often encounter challenges related to site-specific constraints, such as limited space for equipment installation or unexpected obstacles during cable routing. Coordinating with multiple stakeholders—including civil, electrical, and IT teams—can also present scheduling and communication difficulties. Additionally, ensuring strict compliance with industry standards and client specifications while managing tight deadlines requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Proactively addressing these challenges is key to the successful delivery of telecommunication projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Telecommunication Detail Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Telecommunication Detail Engineer, you need expertise in network design, knowledge of telecommunications standards, and a degree in electrical or telecom engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, GIS tools, and industry-specific platforms like AutoCAD or Visio is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as CCNA or BICSI. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication help ensure precise technical documentation and successful collaboration with project teams. These skills ensure robust and efficient network infrastructure design, compliance with industry standards, and smooth project execution.

What are Telecommunication Detail Engineers?

Telecommunication Detail Engineers are professionals responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the installation and maintenance of telecommunication systems, such as fiber optic networks, cellular towers, and data transmission infrastructures. Job description

Position Overview
As a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE), you will play a key role in evaluating, analyzing, and designing telecommunications and related structural systems to ensure their safety, stability, and code compliance. Responsibilities include assessing existing communication structures-such as guyed towers, self-supporting towers, monopoles, rooftops, water tanks, and elevated equipment platforms-to determine load capacity, identify structural deficiencies, and recommend modifications or reinforcements.
You will prepare detailed engineering reports, review field inspection findings, and support the design of structural modifications, foundations, and reinforcement solutions. This remote position requires strong technical expertise, effective communication, and excellent time management skills to successfully collaborate with cross-functional teams and support internal and external stakeholders. In addition, you will contribute to mentoring junior engineers and maintaining high standards of engineering quality and safety compliance.
What You Will Do
  • Review and evaluate service requests to ensure all required information is available for accurate and timely completion.
  • Analyze existing and proposed telecommunications structures and foundations, including guyed towers, self-supporting towers, monopoles, rooftops, water tanks, and elevated equipment platforms.
  • Assess structural load capacity and perform engineering analyses for projects ranging from low to high complexity using manual calculations, structural analysis software, and approved engineering methodologies.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations, structural assessment reports, and recommendations for repairs, reinforcements, or modifications to improve structural performance and code compliance.
  • Review field inspection reports and provide technical guidance regarding required repairs, upgrades, or remediation measures.
  • Support the design and development of telecommunications infrastructure modifications, reinforcement systems, and foundation solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, administrative, and CADD teams to develop and finalize project documentation and deliverables.
  • Respond to technical and structural inquiries from internal teams, clients, and other external stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality control reviews to ensure engineering deliverables meet company standards, industry codes, and client requirements.
  • Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and engineering staff.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and applicable engineering codes and practices.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, engineering practices, and industry trends within telecommunications and structural engineering.
  • Support additional engineering and operational tasks as assigned.

What You Will Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred
  • Ability to obtain additional PE licenses in multiple states through reciprocity.
  • Strong working knowledge of telecommunications and structural design codes, including TIA/EIA-222, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and NDS.
  • Familiarity with TARP policies and procedures preferred.
  • Experience using structural analysis and engineering software, including RISA 3D and tnxTower, required.
  • Familiarity with additional engineering and design software preferred, including EnerCalc, Hilti Profis, ADAPT, Bluebeam/Adobe, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Minimum of 2 years of AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while effectively managing priorities and deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed for project-related activities and field evaluations.

Salary $90,000-140,000 per year based on experience.
