Important: Applicants must be at least a Level 1 Certified Teacher’s Assistant (TA) through the New York State Board of Education to apply.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Level 1 Certified Teacher’s Assistant (TA) or higher
  • 6+ months experience as a Teacher’s Assistant preferred
  • Registered on the TEACH website
  • Must be fingerprinted, or willing to be fingerprinted, by the Board of Education and Department of Investigation
  • Certified completion of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse workshops
  • Pre-employment Physical Exam within one year with proof of required immunizations (PPD, MMR, TDAP, Varicella)
Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher, the Teacher’s Assistant supports classroom instruction and daily activities for students. This role includes assisting with educational programs, classroom management, and providing personal care and support to children when required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Special Education Teacher in conducting classroom activities and lessons.
  • Provide physical and programmatic support to students where assigned.
  • Assist with supervision of children during classroom activities and transitions.
  • Support classroom preparation including materials, organization, and administrative tasks.
  • Maintain student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with data collection, progress notes, and documentation as required.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Assist students with toileting, feeding, and personal care when required.
  • Support students during arrival, dismissal, and transportation between buses and the building.
  • Participate in activities outside the classroom when necessary (gym, trips, pool activities, etc.).
  • Attend staff meetings and required training sessions.
  • Provide general classroom and program support as needed.
