This Teaching Assistant (TA) position is for a One-on-One for a student with Down Syndrome in our Lower School (1st grade). Essential functions of this position include:
  • Implements educational, therapeutic and behavioral plans under the direct supervision of the classroom/enrichment teacher(s) and off-site therapy services
  • Assists the children throughout the day as directed by the teacher
  • Supervises assigned student at all times (with the exception of lunch break, meetings and/or training), including during busing and transitional activities
  • Assists student in all activities of daily living while promoting independence
  • Functions as a positive, contributing member of the classroom team
  • Attends appropriate meetings as determined by the teacher and Saint Paul Catholic School TA policy/expectations
  • Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of classroom, equipment, and supplies
  • Demonstrates a consistent, nurturing manner toward all children
  • Shares all relevant information related to assigned student with the teachers, therapists, and/or parent
  • Performs classroom duties as assigned by the teacher(s)
  • Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training to enhance job skills and personal growth and development

Minimum and Preferred requirements:
  • High school graduate
  • Experience working with students in a classroom setting
  • Experience with students with specific, special needs
  • Must satisfy complete criminal background and reference checks
  • Must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training
