General function and scope of responsibility
The position of Student Marketing Assistant is a part-time student employment opportunity within the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Housing and Residence Life office. This position may also be structured to meet academic internship requirements, depending on the student's program and approval process.
Reporting to the Marketing Specialist, the Student Marketing Assistant supports the marketing and communication efforts of Housing and Residence Life by assisting with creative, promotional, and outreach activities that engage current and future students, promote programs, services, and initiatives, and help inform students of university and Housing and Residence Life policies and expectations.
This position is designed to be flexible and adaptable. Responsibilities will be tailored to the student's strengths, interests, and areas they would like to develop, while also supporting the overall marketing and communication goals of Housing and Residence Life.
Examples of Possible Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing and communication support
  • Assist with marketing and communication efforts for Housing and Residence Life programs, services, initiatives, and events
  • Support campaigns related to housing, residence hall life, student engagement, and departmental priorities

Social media
  • Assist with creating, scheduling, and publishing content for Housing and Residence Life social media platforms
  • Help monitor engagement and provide ideas for improving reach and effectiveness
  • Contribute creative ideas that reflect student life and residence hall experiences

Graphic design
  • Create graphics for social media, digital signage, presentations, and print materials
  • Follow Housing and Residence Life and university brand guidelines
  • Revise designs based on feedback from professional staff

Writing and content creation
  • Write and edit content such as social media captions, flyers, emails, web content, or short articles related to housing and residence life
  • Proofread materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency

Presentations and outreach
  • Assist with preparing presentations or promotional materials for orientations, trainings, meetings, tabling, or residence hall events
  • Represent Housing and Residence Life in a professional and student-centered manner when assisting with outreach

Administration and collaboration
  • Maintain open and frequent communication with professional staff supervisors
  • Manage assigned projects and meet established deadlines
  • Collaborate with other student employees and staff within Housing and Residence Life

Additional responsibilities
  • Responsibilities may evolve based on the student's interests, skills, and areas they would like to develop
  • Additional duties may be assigned to support the needs and goals of Housing and Residence Life and constitute part of the employment or internship agreement

Conditions of employment / internship
  • Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
  • Must be available for 5-15 hours a week during the academic year
  • More hours may be available during summer and school breaks
  • Maintain satisfactory academic standing
