ABOUT THE ROLE 
The Senior Structural / Design Engineer is responsible for the structural design and engineering of precast concrete systems for Southern Alberta's precast division. This role focuses on engineering, design, drafting coordination, constructability, and technical support for precast structures and components. The position includes the design, detailing coordination, construction, and installation support of precast elements, as well as providing engineering input for estimating, value engineering, and project execution. The engineer will liaise with project managers, consultants, and clients to deliver efficient and successful precast solutions.


WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Provide structural design of precast structures and elements, including design of concrete and steel connections.
  • Manage internal and external drafting requirements; review and issue construction and shop drawings.
  • Assist with technical support during preconstruction for sales and estimating, including development of project-specific designs to support competitive bids.
  • Collaborate with consultants, architects, and external structural engineering firms to provide precast technical input for standard and specialty products.
  • Provide plant engineering support, including facility additions, plant equipment, and lifting and handling devices (Safe Work Loadings).
  • Review site precast erection requirements, including temporary bracing, crane sizing, and precast member sequencing.
  • Coordinate with project managers, drafting, production, and erection teams on project details, scheduling, and execution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the production facility and on job sites; identify value engineering and optimization opportunities.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineering staff; support standardized design practices, welding procedure reviews (CWB), and technical aspects of product development and production.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's Degree.
Field of Study Preferred: Civil or Structural Engineering.
Required Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of precast concrete design experience.
Required Training/Certifications: Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with APEGA.
Required Technical Skills: MS Office, BIM Software (e.g. Revit, Tekla).
Travel Requirements: 0-10%

Additional Requirements: 

  • Eligibility for registration in British Columbia and Saskatchewan considered an asset.
  • 3D modeling experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Practical, construction-focused engineering mindset.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
