Job Description

The Research Assistant will support research activities related to mapping and geomorphological analysis of Martian brain terrain and its terrestrial analogues. This position involves geospatial analysis, remote sensing, scientific communication, and data management in support of ongoing environmental, Earth science, and/or planetary science research projects. The successful candidate will contribute to both independent and collaborative research efforts and assist with the analysis and interpretation of spatial datasets and imagery products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, and analyze maps and spatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro and related GIS tools

  • Process and interpret satellite, aerial, and drone imagery for environmental and geomorphic analysis

  • Conduct spatial analyses and apply basic statistical methods to support research objectives and data interpretation

  • Organize, manage, and maintain geospatial datasets, metadata, and project files

  • Assist with scientific writing, technical reports, proposal preparation, and figure creation

  • Manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced research environment while maintaining high-quality work standards

  • Work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines responsibly

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and contribute to project discussions

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience using ArcGIS Pro or similar GIS software

  • Familiarity with satellite, aerial, or drone imagery analysis

  • Basic understanding of spatial analysis and statistical methods

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with scientific writing, proposal development, or technical reporting

  • Experience creating publication-quality maps and figures

  • Knowledge of environmental, Earth science, or planetary science applications of GIS

  • Familiarity with additional geospatial or statistical software (e.g., Python, R, ENVI, QGIS)
