What is the difference between Startup vs Freelancer?

AspectStartup
Work EnvironmentFast-paced, collaborative, innovative
Required CredentialsVaries, often less formal, focus on skills and adaptability
Industry UsageCommon in tech, marketing, and creative sectors
Employment TypeFull-time or part-time employee

While startups offer a structured employment environment with team collaboration, freelancers work independently, providing services on a project basis. Both roles require adaptability and specific skills, but startups typically involve a team setting with company benefits, whereas freelancers operate autonomously with flexible schedules.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a startup, and how can new hires adapt to this environment?

Working at a startup often involves navigating ambiguity, rapidly changing priorities, and taking on responsibilities beyond your formal job description. New hires can adapt by staying flexible, proactively communicating with their team, and embracing a growth mindset. Success in this environment often comes from being resourceful, open to feedback, and willing to learn new skills on the fly. Collaborating closely with colleagues and seeking mentorship within the company can also help you quickly integrate and thrive.

What is a startup?

A startup is a newly established company that is typically in the early stages of development and aims to create a unique product or service to address a market need. Startups are often characterized by innovation, rapid growth potential, and a focus on scalability. They usually operate with limited resources and seek funding from investors to grow their business quickly. Unlike established companies, startups often face high uncertainty and risk but can offer significant rewards if successful.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Startup Founder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Startup Founder, you need strong business acumen, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of your industry or market, often supported by entrepreneurial experience or education. Familiarity with project management tools, financial modeling software, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems is typically important. Resilience, adaptability, leadership, and effective communication distinguish successful founders in the fast-paced startup environment. These skills are crucial for navigating uncertainty, inspiring teams, and driving innovation and growth.

Job description

Let's Be Clear: We are not hiring a resume, nor a college degree. We're hiring a closer. Someone intelligent and passionate.
We're a fast-growing tech startup operating in the cybersecurity-adjacent space. You will be negotiating 5-7-figure contracts with enterprise executives, billionaires, public figures, and some of the most powerful people in the world.
This is not transactional SaaS. This is not AI-slop.
This is high-trust, high-stakes, high-impact selling.
We literally save lives.
If you're wired to compete, to win, and to build something meaningful... keep reading.
Who This Is For
You don't need 20 years of experience.
You don't need a specific degree.
You do need:
  • Relentless drive
  • Limitless ambition
  • Competitive intensity
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Thick skin
  • Strong communication skills
  • The ability to build trust quickly
  • A desire to make serious money

If you're the kind of person who hates losing, studies your craft, gives everything you've got, and wants to accelerate your trajectory... this is the kind of opportunity that lets you skip the line.
We'll teach you the industry and everything you need to know, all while paying a solid base. We just are looking for the right person.
What You'll Actually Do
  • Find and close high-value contracts (5-7 figures)
  • Run the full sales cycle
  • Build relationships with high-level decision-makers
  • Negotiate confidently and intelligently
  • Manage complex, longer sales processes
  • Operate with professionalism at all times
  • Represent a brand that is trusted by powerful individuals
  • Occasionally travel to major meetings or conferences, often with our CEO

This is not a churn-and-burn inside sales job.. it's strategic, relationship selling.
What We're Looking For
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • High confidence without arrogance
  • Coachable but not fragile
  • Comfortable in high-stakes conversations
  • Strong internal drive to earn and outperform
  • Professional presence (you can sit across from executives and hold your own)

Bonus points if you've previously sold high-ticket deals, have familiarity with cybersecurity or privacy, or come from a competitive background (sports, debate, entrepreneurship, etc).
Compensation
  • $180,000/yr OTE (W2, Full-Time In-Office)
  • Base salary ($60k) + commission ($120k variable) + with no ceiling on earnings
  • Real opportunity to significantly exceed OTE (once you start you'll quickly realize how $300-400k/yr is in reach)

No games. If you sell, you earn. Period.
What You'll Get
  • Fast-growing startup environment
  • Direct access to leadership
  • Meaningful deals that actually matter
  • Explosive career acceleration without waiting 10 years
  • Professional exposure to some of the most influential people in the world
  • A seat at the table while we scale

This Is Not For You If...
  • You need constant hand-holding
  • You avoid hard conversations
  • You blame the market instead of improving your craft
  • You're comfortable being average

How to Apply
Submit your resume and a short (300 words max) response to:
-- What's the hardest thing you've ever had to sell (business or personal)... and how did you close it?
We read every application carefully. Applying here might be the best decision you ever make.
