Packaging Associate, 1st Shift | Southern Tier Brewing - Lakewood, NY
Compensation Target: $18/HR
The Packaging Associate is responsible for executing daily packaging operations to meet production schedules while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency standards are maintained. This role operates and supports packaging equipment, performs manual and machine-assisted packaging tasks, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment to ensure high-quality finished products.
Reports to: Packaging Supervisor
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Operate and maintain proficiency on all packaging line equipment, including carton erectors, depalletizers, packers, wrappers, sealers, and palletizers.
  • Execute daily packaging operations across can, bottle, and keg lines in accordance with SOPs and safety standards.
  • Load packaging materials including cans, bottles, kegs, cases, trays, carriers, crowns, partitions, and wraps.
  • Perform manual packaging tasks as needed, including hand packing, stacking, and line support.
  • Support sanitation, cleaning, and CIP procedures across packaging equipment and surrounding work areas.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, recycling, and material handling tasks.
  • Perform general production support tasks as assigned, including cleaning, light maintenance, assembly, and disposal of outdated product.
  • Support cross-functional cleaning and sanitation efforts across the brewery as needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols and operational procedures to ensure consistent product quality and safe equipment operation.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to brewery safety programs.
  • Basic understanding of sanitation and food safety practices.
  • Familiarity with packaging equipment operation preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable work ethic and professional attitude.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 55 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to move up to 165 lbs. of kegged product using proper equipment or assistance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and reaching.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, including wrenches and basic maintenance tools.
  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks and operate packaging equipment.
  • Ability to identify product quality attributes, including color, aroma, and appearance.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to obtain the ABV Forklift Certification.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a damp, wet environment with hot liquids, airborne particles, chemicals and moving machinery. The noise level in the work environment can be very loud. Appropriate PPE is required at all times in production areas.
