POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

The Director, Civil Field Operations provides overall leadership, coordination, and direction for all civil field operations within the division. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, sequencing, execution, and performance of field activities across multiple utility-scale solar and renewable projects.

This role ensures consistent field delivery aligned with company objectives for safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance. The Civil Lead General Superintendent plays a key role in developing field leadership capabilities, implementing standardized best practices, and driving continuous improvement across all project sites. The position partners closely with Project Management, Preconstruction, Subcontractors, and Engineering teams to enhance constructability planning, resource forecasting, workforce planning and operational scalability across regions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for all civil field operations across active projects.

  • Direct and coordinate planning, sequencing, and execution of civil work activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality performance.

  • Establish, implement, and maintain standardized field practices, operational procedures, and performance expectations across the division.

  • Partner with Project Management and Preconstruction teams to review constructability, sequencing, and resource planning for upcoming projects.

  • Conduct regular site visits to evaluate progress, identify risks, review quality, verify compliance with project requirements, and mentor field leadership teams.

  • Oversee labor, equipment utilization, and material planning, ensuring proper allocation across regions to meet project and organizational demands.

  • Lead efforts to improve field productivity, schedule adherence, and cost effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with Safety and Quality teams to ensure adherence to Moss standards and environmental and regulatory compliance.

  • Lead workforce development by mentoring field leadership and supporting recruitment, onboarding, and professional growth initiatives.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for operational improvement and consistency across all field operations.

  • Provide strategic input for long-term field staffing forecasts, equipment needs, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Drive subcontractor success, diagnose and resolve subcontractor performance issues, and develop key subcontractor relationships.

  • Serve as an escalation point for General Superintendents and Senior Superintendents on field execution, safety, quality, and coordination issues.

  • Participate in weekly project-level coordination meetings and regional operational reviews.

  • Identify lessons learned and ensure implementation across projects and regions.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive field leadership experience in civil, infrastructure, or renewable construction, including self-perform experience.

  • Proven success managing multiple project sites and multi-region field operations.

  • Strong technical understanding of earthwork, drainage, utilities, and site infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop field personnel across diverse regions.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills with a focus on accountability and results.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites nationwide.
