Job Opportunity: Research Assistant
Location: 1 Washington Square North, NY, NY 10003
Part-Time: 10 hours/week; Hybrid

Compensation: $30/hour
Dr. Sireen Irsheid at the NYU Silver School of Social Work is seeking a Data Science Research Assistant (master's or PhD level) with strong existing skills in quantitative data analysis and experience working with large datasets to support ongoing projects focused on equity in education and disrupting school pushout.
Job Description
The intern will work on the Disrupting School Pushout project, which examines how systemic factors contribute to school pushout in New York City. The project connects data on neighborhood-level opportunity structures and school resource allocation with information about students' academic and mental health outcomes.
Job responsibilities include:
  • Conducting descriptive and advanced statistical analyses (including multilevel modeling) on extant and merged datasets using SAS and Stata.
  • Working with large datasets, including merging files into the data archive.
  • Creating clear data visualizations to communicate results (including GIS maps).
  • Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and reports based on study findings.
  • Supporting the project coordinator on the qualitative portion of the study (e.g., data organization, coding support, or integration of qualitative and quantitative findings).
  • Collaborating with Dr. Irsheid and team members to support both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the project.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Proficiency in SAS and Stata.
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative data analysis, including multilevel modeling.
  • Proven ability to work with large datasets, including merging and managing complex files.
  • Experience with data visualization (graphs, GIS maps, figures).
  • Proficiency with GIS software and spatial data analysis is highly desirable.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to contribute to manuscripts and presentations.
  • Interest or experience in mixed-methods research and willingness to collaborate on qualitative aspects of the project.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in coding, data management, and documentation.
  • Strong interest in issues of equity in education and school pushout
