Summary:
Responsible for the renovation efforts under the supervision of the VCS Renovation Team Supervisor. The Renovation Specialist (remodeling crew member) will be assigned renovation and small construction projects throughout the various Vincentian facilities.
As a Renovation Specialist, this person will be required to complete assigned tasks that will include, but not be limited to, all aspects of indoor and outdoor renovation and construction projects. This includes assisting in ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as established policies and procedures.
It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Commit to the Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.
2. Uphold and promote the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy and stewardship.
3. Performs tasks and duties as assigned.
4. Assists the technical leads (Carpenter, Painter, Flooring, etc.) with projects and tasks as needed.
5. Contribute and work with the Renovation Team on construction and renovation projects that include carpentry, painting and flooring work focused on renovation and new construction.
6. Adheres to the regulatory requirements of performing work in licensed healthcare and childcare facilities. Will seek guidance from the Supervisor or Safety Manager when compliance questions arise.
7. Uses and installs only those materials suitable for use in licensed healthcare or childcare facilities. Will consult with the VCS Safety Manager or Executive Director of Facilities and Support Services for guidance.
8. Responsible for maintaining VCS-provided tools, equipment, and vehicles.
9. Travel to multiple VCS locations where work or proposed work is to take place.
10. Controls the work environment to mitigate impact to surrounding staff, residents, or other occupants.
11. Responsible for maintaining a work environment that will not compromise the safety or integrity of the building or the building systems. Under the supervision of the Renovation Team Supervisor, coordinates with facility staff to access utilities. Provides advance notice of necessary shut-downs or other interruptions in service. Under the supervision of the Renovation Team Supervisor, coordinates with facility staff when needed to coordinate with outside vendors who maintain or service existing building systems.
12. Respects the work restrictions enacted at each facility by qualified facility personnel (Administrator, Nursing Director, Maintenance Manager, VCS Safety Manager, etc.). Uses personal protective equipment and supplies as appropriate.
13. Maintains compliance with OSHA standards. Maintains compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
14. Performs other duties as required.
Education/Experience:
1. High school graduate or equivalent required
2. Trade school degree/certification is preferred.
3. Current/valid driver's license required.
4. Five years of construction and renovation experience is required.
5. Previous experience in a hospital or nursing home setting is preferred.
6. Excellent communication skills
7. Ability to work effectively and influence behavior at all levels of the organization, including administrators, management staff and employees.
8. Strong planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills are essential to this position.
9. Able to operate electronic devices (laptop, tablet, I-Phone, etc.) to create and receive work orders.
10. Working knowledge of renovation and construction methods in DOH-regulated medical facilities.
11. Working knowledge of OSHA standards, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 70, and other safety practices as they apply to healthcare
12. Must be able to read schematic drawings and blueprints.
Work Environment:
1. Typical day may require field work and travel between various Vincentian facilities, and interaction with Vincentian facilities and employees.
2. Able to immediately relocate to other locations based on need.
3. Employees of a long-term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.
4. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.
5. Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary.
6. Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
