Construction Director – Lead Federal Portfolio and Multi-State Commercial Builds Job Overview

The Opportunity

As the Director of Commercial Construction, you will serve as a critical executive leader overseeing a diverse federal portfolio and multi-state commercial projects. You will have the autonomy to stand up scalable processes, mentor a high-performing team, and drive P&L outcomes for a rapidly growing firm. This role is designed for a strategic expert who thrives on stabilizing complex delivery schedules and building long-term client partnerships.

How You Will Make an Impact
  • Standardize the operating rhythm by implementing Autodesk Construction Cloud Cost Management for budgets and reporting.

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of Project Managers and Superintendents through dedicated coaching and career development.

  • Direct change management and claims posture to ensure pricing integrity and compliance with FAR/DFARS regulations.

  • Oversee the successful delivery of occupied-facility remodels, including MEP/HVAC, security, and specialized sitework.

  • Drive project schedules using P6 or MS Project to manage logic ties, resource curves, and recovery plans.

  • Cultivate deep federal client relationships with the USPS, GSA, and VA to diversify the company's project book.

  • Ensure 100% compliance with safety and quality protocols, maintaining a TRIR below industry benchmarks.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in commercial construction leadership.

  • At least 7 years of experience specifically leading federal projects and multi-site teams.

  • Mastery of contracts, schedule of values (SOV) alignment, and earned value forecasting.

  • Proven proficiency in Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, and P6 or MS Project.

  • In-depth knowledge of Davis-Bacon, Miller Act, BABAA, and USACE 3-Phase QC.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Master’s degree or MBA in a relevant field of study.

  • Active PMP or DBIA professional certifications.

  • Demonstrated success in stabilizing troubled jobs and mentoring junior project leaders.
