Purchasing & Production Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and driven Purchasing & Production Manager to oversee material procurement, vendor relationships, and assist with production scheduling for our growing design-build landscaping division.

This role is critical to ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and at the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands construction and landscaping operations, and can effectively coordinate between design, field crews, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Vendor Management

  • Source and procure all materials for landscaping and hardscaping projects (plants, stone, pavers, lighting, irrigation, etc.)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional vendors
  • Negotiate pricing, track cost fluctuations, and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Ensure timely ordering and delivery of materials to meet production schedules
  • Maintain accurate purchase orders and inventory tracking systems

Production & Scheduling

  • Assist with weekly and long-term production schedules across multiple crews
  • Develop and manage Gantt schedules to coordinate crews, materials, and project timelines, ensuring jobs are completed on time and within budget
  • Coordinate closely with the design team to ensure smooth project handoffs
  • Align labor, equipment, and materials to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime
  • Monitor project timelines and proactively adjust schedules as needed
  • Ensure all jobs are set up for success prior to crew mobilization

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Track job costs related to materials and production
  • Work with leadership to maintain target profit margins
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements
  • Assist in estimating support as needed (material takeoffs, vendor pricing)

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in landscaping, construction, or production management
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping materials, hardscaping, and installation processes preferred
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with purchasing, vendor negotiation, and scheduling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with project management or CRM software is a plus
