What is a Program Project Manager?

A Program Project Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating multiple related projects within a program to achieve organizational goals. They manage resources, timelines, and budgets, ensuring projects are aligned with broader business strategies. Their role often involves communicating with stakeholders, managing risks, and ensuring successful delivery of program objectives. Program Project Managers play a key role in bridging the gap between executive vision and practical execution across various projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Program Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Program Project Manager, you need strong project management expertise, organizational skills, and a relevant degree or certification such as PMP or PRINCE2. Familiarity with project management tools like Microsoft Project, Jira, or Asana, as well as budget tracking systems, is typically required. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate teams, manage stakeholders, and navigate challenges. These abilities are essential for delivering projects on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals.

How do Program Project Managers typically balance stakeholder expectations across multiple projects?

Program Project Managers often manage several projects simultaneously, each with its own set of stakeholders and priorities. Balancing these expectations requires clear communication, regular status updates, and the ability to negotiate resource allocation to meet competing needs. They frequently facilitate meetings to align goals, address risks early, and ensure transparency among teams. Building strong relationships and setting realistic timelines are key strategies to successfully manage stakeholder expectations across the program.

Job description

Job The project environment has changed and evolved over the past number of years within state government, requiring the need for an expansion of a project manager's competency base. As agency budgets tighten and our constituents demand more accountability, the need for more business-focused project management practices that align to state government becomes imperative. This requires project managers to have a broader skill set than those represented by holding the PMP credential.

Those traditional project management skills are still needed. However, the State of Georgia Project Manager Certification Program broadens those skills beyond the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential to encompass a businessfocused project management competency with a state government focus. The curriculum, assessments, reviews and coaching have been designed to ensure a project delivers a valuable business solution that aligns to the agency's mission.

If you want to broaden your competencies today to become one of the state's leaders for the future, this certification is for you. Keep reading and discover how to get involved. Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills The Enterprise Portfolio Management Office at the Georgia Technology Authority has created a Project Manager Certification Program to advance project management competencies in state government.

Participants applying to the program may enter through one of three tracks. The first track is determined by whether the applicant holds the PMP credential. The second track is for those not holding the credential.

The third track is designed for management personnel who either manage project managers or oversee projects, programs, or portfolios at a senior level in the organization. All applicants will submit a PM Competency Assessment that will be used to establish a competency baseline and assist in creating a development plan. The applicant will then complete the required curriculum.

In order to receive the Georgia Certified Project Manager designation, applicants must have managed projects for a period of at least two years within the State of Georgia, the most recent being no less than one year before applying to the program. For those applicants who are not managing projects, an Associate of Project Management certification or Executive Certificate in Project Management can be attained. Minimum qualifications & Requirements 1.Apply through this posting 2.Your qualifications will be reviewed
